Hi all, I need to replace the steering head bearings on my ST4. Which of the hex nuts do you take out first. At the moment I can't shift either.
Probably necessary or best to take fairing off. 1. remove bars by taking out allen bolts from top of clipons. Tie bars out the way keeping reservoirs upright. You could leave them bolted to the yoke but its a bit cumbersome like that. 2. loosen 2 pinch bolts at sides nipping forklegs and centre one nipping stem. 3. remove centre nut with holes in. Best to get correct tool for this. £10ish from ebay. 4.Top yoke should now tap off upwards. You now have to get the front of the bike up in the air and remove mudguard, calipers then the wheel. Hang the calipers off the bike so no strain on hoses. 5. Loosen pinchbolts in bottom yoke. Legs should now slide out carefully so not to damage finish. 6. Unscrew castle nut on stem and bottom yoke and stem should drop out. All you have to do now is drift the old bearing races out put new ones in and reassemble.
