  1. I am hoping that I can have a short blast on my bike today. My only concern is that last time I went out I fell off when the bike stalled at a junction.I was just turning and over it went. That was the first time out on my bike for quite a few months.I havn't had enough rides on the bike to build my confidence back.

  2. get out and enjoy , on a beautiful day like today would be rude not to ! ....

  7. I'm always a bit nervous before I decide to go for a spin...............might be because asthma makes me short of breath............

........but once I'm rolling and my breathing settles down, the 'idiot' isn't far away............

  8. Make sure you have both feet down coming to a junction and before taking off that way your stabilised incase of such occurance
Many a times that's been my saviour when I have stalled

Hope your ride was a good one today

  9. Two feet down is a good idea Ducbird!
I have dropped two of my bikes, having stalled when already leaning on the way out of a junction. A tad embarrassing to say the least, but most of us will have done it at some stage. Thank heavens for black visors is all I will say :)

It's a funny old thing but I shake like a leaf when I'm getting ready to go out on the bike. As with Arquebus though, I feel fine once I get going.

  11. As long as you don't feel Arquebus, I don't mind.......

As an aside, there is a B road Give Way at a Y junction near me.........about three weeks ago, there was a diesel spillage, so along came the Authorities and spread about a ton or more of sand.....

......which is still there, so even if you get both feet down, a biker is in serious risk of a foot slipping and/or a front brake lock up/wheelspin when moving off........

...in some ways it is just as bad as the diesel.

I was out on the bike yesterday and found it really difficult to spot a way through the sand, because the junction is in a dip so it is spread across the roads in all directions.

  12. i like the seat unit [IMG]

  13. Bikes are bloody exciting things. Enjoy the ride, wish I was out (while looking at the weather through an office window)

  15. Thankyou for all your kind words and encouragement.I did manage to get my short ride-after all the faffing about that goes with a bike ride before you even get on the bike.Pre flight checks including going for a wee before putting leathers on.Making sure I have door key, phone.money, credit card, and of course the keys.Having done all of that I have practically worn myself out,so chew the fat with Mrs Mervyn for a bit.
Well I let the bike warm up a bit and wobble off down the road and psyche myself up for the infamous fall off junction. We are lucky and make the start of my ride still upright and accelerating. So far so good but it all feels a bit strange,I am starting to worry about the front tyre, the front suspension, the wheel falling off.It is all in my mind, and as the minutes roll by I am starting to feel a little more confident.
I am riding one of my usual loops out from my house and back and I know all the dodgy side roads and hazardous places. The worst one being one of those painted on road mini roundabouts where most drivers from one blind side don't even stop.My confidence increases as I get into my stride, especially on a nice bit of B road where I know all the bits between corners and double white lines where I can use the power of the bike to do my overtakes and achieve that grin factor that is part of biking.I was starting to get the bit between my teeth and then thought, take it easy, you are not Valentino, you old fart.Twenty minutes ago you could hardly ride the bike.:Angelic:
So I made my way home at a more sensible pace.In all I had only done 42 miles, most of it so very enjoyable.Hopefully I can get out again sooner rather than later, then I can build up my confidence a bit more.:)

  16. Glad you enjoyed it and it was trouble free. Out of interest, what bike did you use ?

  17. My SF 848 dukesox, more than enough oomph for me.A much nicer bike to ride since I had some bar risers fitted.

  18. The joys of getting older hey. Instead of contorting your body to fit the bike, make changes to the bike to fit your body !

  20. Though having said that,I still have the most lustful thoughts about bikes which are completely inappropriate for me.And then I have to control myself in case I confess to Mrs Mervyn about what I would really like!!!!:(
