HID Lights - failed

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by cockneyjanner, Sep 5, 2012.

  1. Hi All
The dipped beam HID I've got fitted has failed. I haven't had time to play around with it yet but wondered if anyone had experience with them. Can the bulbs be replaced on their own or are they sold as a whole kit?
    Thanks in advance!

  2. Hi Steve

Bulbs for HID are available separately. Don't know which type of bulb your HID replaced. A Google of HID bulbs will give you a load of hits. They are expensive compared with Halogen bulbs though. If its not the bulb the chances are its the ballast.

HID bulbs have a longer life but apparently do not like being constantly lit and relit, so its better to try and avoid switching them on and off if you can avoid it. I fitted a manual switch on my 1098 for the lights to stop them going on-off-on when I'm starting the bike.

    Hope that helps

  3. Thanks very much John.
I should be able to eliminate which part is at fault by swapping bits around with the main beam components, and hopefully just buy a bulb.
I want to stay with the HIDs if I can, as they are fantastic lights - way better than anything else I've used.
    Thanks again
    Steve

  4. No bother Steve, its almost certain to be the bulb as ballasts are pretty reliable these days.

I agree bloody brilliant at night, get you noticed a lot quicker in the day and look pretty dammed cool too. I really like mine!
