I did the London commute yesterday but couldn't bear it again today. I would have had to rig up a chain oiler to drop water on my head.
Tsk, lightweight JH, I ride in almost every day, whatever the weather! I use a mesh jacket, trousers and gloves, which is ok as soon as you are moving, thank god they have fixed the broken water main in Kennington as being stuck in that traffic is murder. Last night I was at a client event and left London at 9:30pm, it was still really hot all the way home though.
I don't like to ride in too often because my job is travelling around clients all day and put simply, trying to find a bike bay with a gap after 0900 is an utter ball ache. Much simpler on the tube but then if I know I am going around on the tube I don't like to park the multi at the office and leave it unchained and unmonitored all day. No proper parking at my office, just a bike bay in the street.
I've seen how people squeeze their bike/scooters in to those bike bays in London. Wouldn't put my bikes anywhere near one.
no suffering when you have climate control in the car In fact i would go as far as to say it seems to be those on bikes who suffer most in this weather. This and sub-zero are the times I am really glad the bike has been left at home.
I had a 90 mile round trip from Kent to Essex this morning.....it was damn hot with all the gear on and a backpack. My bike got a bit warm too - temperature gauge went up to 98c, which made it even warmer around the legs and the bum!
I'll take these one by one... Cream - no other choice in London although 3 weeks ago I paid £9.50 for an hours parking in a car bay because I had no room in the bike bay. I did make sure my bike took up the full bay I'd paid for. Stanford - you sound local. I'm Kent/East Sussex border and regularly travel to Essex to see family. My bike temp got to 119 in London traffic yesterday and that was uncomfortable. Aircon - Half Basement office with only stairs for access. I wish I could.
I went to Squires this evening on the 899 and according to the "outside" temp gauge it was between 31C and 35C all evening. Either was it was bleeding warm in my leathers and even though they are perforated the only way I could get a cooling breeze was to ride faster than 75mph. Anything under that and I was starting to melt!
37 degrees on the way across Waterloo bridge tonight, got up to 43 when I was stuck in traffic, still 31 degrees out here in Reigate.... it's damned hot!
It's 27 here and I'm melting Moving around is tiring It's been 33 degrees in the car my climate control is broken :Bawling: Guess what they started roadworks right by my house on the hottest day!!! Took 20 mins just to get out of my road onto the main road Hurry up rain to cool it down
