How did that happen?

  1. Monday morning:

Got up; Felt OK; Felt Good; Felt Well.

Had bath; got dressed; put suit on.

Went to funeral; Got cold; Got Wet (It always seems to rain at funerals I go to).

    Went to the 'wake';

Drove home; Had dinner; Had plonk; Watched TV; Went to bed.

    Tuesday morning:

    Got up; Felt AOK again;

Coughed a bit; assume caused by fusty dusty church.

Shortly after, realised my chest was hurting quite bad on the right side, happened suddenly.

It feels as though someone whacked me with a bit of 4" x 2".

    Still hurts now.

I reckon I have either torn a muscle or cracked a rib. HTF did I do that?

  2. Went to the pub and felt fine.

Drank a bottle of brandy and felt fine.

    Got home and felt fine.

Went to sleep and woke up feeling like shit.

I obviously conclude that sleep is bad for you.

  3. just how much 'plonk' AL - we are getting to the age when you can lean on something too heavily and fracture a rib without knowing it, does this ring any bells?

  4. Could be inflammation in the Pleural cavity Al. That can give the sort of symptoms you describe.

Pleural cavity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How do I know, I have had plenty lung problems myself, including 3 x spontaneous Pneumothorax ( bloody agony) and the worst case of T.B this century.

  5. Not much at all Chris....

  6. If symptoms develop, you start feeling breathless or start to sweat, loose colour and go grey then call an ambulance, it could be a precursor to a heart attack.

Hopefully it will just get better though.

  7. Great, thanks......That will be on top of my asthma and mild COPD, then...........

......so, looking on the even worse side, I suppose it could be the big one or gangrene.

Just as well I'm seeing the doc on Wednesday, innit?

  8. I'm like that all the time....................

  9. Seriously !!!

  10. Yep, seriously.....well, nearly anyway.

  11. Well, if you've torn a muscle (and I have in the past), the symptoms are pretty obvious. Certain movements hurt a lot but it doesn't hurt if you're not moving. Laughing hurts. Hope that's all it is.

  12. Yer fucked !!! Give us ya bike

p.s. hope it ain't too serious :upyeah:

  13. My money is still on my original diagnosis Al. Cold and wet; and not forgetting the emotional side, which can play a significant part, all factors that can lead to a infection in an area full of sensitive nerve endings.

Keep warm mate, I don't think the grim reaper will be visiting you just yet!

  14. An old fella like you with brittle bones, imagine a mere small lady-cough could break a rib...

  15. had similar symptoms once left work straight to docs demanded to see doc straight away thought i was having a hart attack turnd out to be a trapd nerve in my shoulder felt like a right pillock.

  16. I get an occasional trapped nerve in my left shoulder and it bloody hurts for up to 20-30 minutes. Put it down to age and using 3 pillows

  17. Better safe than sorry, better to feel a pillock than dead. A persistent pain that wont go away is one of the signs of an impending heart attack so if any other symptoms kick in seek urgent help.

  18. totally.

  19. Laying still in bed, no hurt..........Get up, hurt, mainly with movements....

    ....cough or deep breath.....hurt

My initial thoughts were cracked rib, because it appeared very suddenly.....ie, no warning or build up like an infection.

Actual pain tends to move around from front lower ribs to rear ribs, although it isn't always a bony pain and more like muscular.

I'm prone to slouching at the PC, so I wonder if I had a good coughing fit, tore a muscles and bashed a couple of ribs together.

I think if my heart was on the way out, I wouldn't have got this far, so far....

Still, off to the quacks on Wednesday, so I guess from there it will be (yet another) X-Ray....

If its bad news, you lot had better make sure Mrs AL gets good prices for all my stuff!

  20. I'll bet it's a torn muscle. You can tear one if you cough violently when it isn't warmed up. If it wasn't a muscle, it would probably be hurting all the time. Not sure you can crack a rib coughing, but I'm no doctor. I have torn a muscle over the ribs a few times from making a sudden movement. You don't necessarily notice it when it happens but later on it can be very painful, especially when getting up out of bed, for example. It fixes itself in a few days without any help.
