How do you removing polish from plastics?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Majvs, Jan 29, 2014.

  1. Despite my best efforts I always manage to get some Autoglym polish on the black plastics. Question is...how do I get if off?
I've tried washing, scrubbing, black plastic restorer but nothing seems to provide a permanent solution. It disappears for a while but the original white tide mark always returns eventually. So any ideas for a permanent solution??

  2. sadly if the polish contains Silicone (which most do these days) then the answer is never.

  3. Smooth peanut butter

  4. No he wants to clean his bike not make a sarny!

  5. Works a treat on black plastic. Then you can make a sandwich

  6. A heat gun will bring back out the natural oils in the plastic. Although I would practice on something 1st its not for the novice to try on their pride and joy.

  7. Tried Autoglym Trim Restorer? I find it deals with plastic of all types...

  8. Methylated Spirits

  9. ACF-50. Brings plastic up a treat.

  10. I also use the Autoglym plastic restorer, it works by re-oiling the pigments rather than redying the plastic like some products do. I tried all sorts over the years with some being so-called specialist products from work suppliers and I still think the Autoglym product is the best.

  11. I have read and seen a video for peanut butter...

  12. isopropyl alcohol works wonders

  13. On plastics I use "silicone spray". It cleans any crap off and keepos the black nice and shiny. I also use it on the wheels as an extra barrier.

  14. I'm stating the obvious but if you do it every time why not use a polish that dries clear?

  15. i use the meguiars stuff it works a treat and is really good for cleaning carbon as well

  16. I agree with Mentalist use a hair dry to draw out the natural oils in the plastic and the use the Autoglym plastic restorer or I normally cover the plastics in WD40 seems to work fine for me.

  17. Thanks all for your helpful suggestions, Going to try the Autoglym Trim Restorer first off.
Might even try peanut butter if nothing else works!

  18. Ain't that a posh alchopop!

  19. 9" grinder.

  20. Tried some of the Autoglym Bumper and Trim Gel today. Brought the plastics up a treat. On the face of it it's worked, completely removing the white haze of dried on polish. I suspect it's probably just covered it up rather than removed it altogether but we'll see.
Thanks again for the suggestions.
