How does it work...ECU

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Jesperht, Nov 1, 2013.

  1. Hi
    i have a 800 M engine in a Cagiva Elefant.
I understand that the ECU, key and panel are coded together. And as far as i know, my ECU cannot be adjusted?
i have 2 problems: the engine underperforms, and i would like to get rid of the panel.
what possibilities do i have? Can i get another ECU, that is adjustable, and get the bike on a Dyno to get adjusted?
would this ECU let me get rid of the panel? And finally, what is an eprom? Not for mine?

any advice on what to do, would be appriciated!
    Cheers

  2. eprom

electronically programmable read only memory ie firmware

  3. I always thought it stood for 'erasable programmable read only memory'. It was from my electronics class at school, 25years ago, so I could be wrong.

  4. If the bike uses the IAW59M or IAW5AM ECU then this can be tuned. In the UK a lot of forum members have used CJS in Bristol, but I see from your profile you are in Denmark. If you can get yourself to Germany then this guy helped with the tuning on my bike AxEd

By disabling the immo in the ECU it has been found that a 749/999 will run with no clocks attached to the bike. I don't know if this applies to other bikes. If it does then that means other clocks could be fitted once the electricl feeds were identified on the OEM connector. You would not have any CANBUS issues as on the 749/999 dash.

Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory were used in the pre-2001 bike ECU's like the 996, 748 etc [IMG]
