How To Remove Mesh Filter On 848?

  1. Doing an oil change on the 848 Evo

Can't work out how to remove the mesh filter.
Cover plate bolts and plate removed, how do you remove the filter for cleaning?

  2. Remove the plate and use some long nose pliers to pull the filter out.

  3. o.k thanks Chris.
I did give it a tentative tug with some long nose pliers but it didn't seem to want to move, so I thought I would ask here first in case 'It fell off in me hand guvenor'
I'll give it a firmer tug!

  4. Big tugs!
If your bike has the horrid Italian cheese bolts you've done well to get the sodding plate off!
    Don't reuse 'em!

  5. To be fair, I was expecting to have problems with the 4 bolts, but they were in very good nick, although I will probably replace with some cap heads.
I presume it's just the friction of the O' rings holding the filter in situ?

  6. Heh John

On the 1098 its a mixture of O ring friction and oil forming a hydraulic bond, it sometimes needs a really pull to get it out, first time I did it I was thinking exactly the same thing but there is noting holding it but the plate.

If its like the 1098 you'll need some of the Ducati gasket bond stuff lightly smeared on the plate edges when you put it back.

Nelson's advice is spot on, don't even be tempted to put the old bolts back on, I replaced mine with caps

  7. Thanks for the advice @Old Jock

Just realized that despite my preparations in getting both new O'rings and crush washer that I dont have any Threebond.
All I do have is a tube of blueHylamar or green and red Hermatite.

Anyone give me advice on wether or not the Hylamar of Hermatite would do the job o.k.

I'm a bit out in the sticks and I would have to order the Threebond online, need to get this job done as I have a track day next week.

  8. black rtv

  9. @finm

    Thanks
I just called a local car accessories shop and he mentioned that he had something called rtv which he supplies to all the local garages which he thinks would do the job.

  10. yip rarely use sump and water pump gaskets now. it will do the job.

  11. don't be afraid to pile it on.

  12. Just got some 'Abro' Blue RTV silicon gasket maker.
    Hopefully that will be ok

  13. blue non setting? if so dont. unless someone knows better only use that stuff with paper gaskets

  14. Back to the shop I go then Fin

I was just about to open the tube!

So it's the Black stuff I need yeh, stuff that goes hard?

  16. I would suggest not piling it on!

  17.
  18. That would be great Richard, what time you home?
I'm keen to get this done ASAP as I believe it might need 24hrs to cure.

  19. Thanks Nelson that's what I thought too, only need a smidgeon!

  20. you can use it straight away. on car sumps. but if your worried about excess on inside where you cant wipe of excess let it go off
