How to use a new blank/virgin ecu on m695

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Lucazade, Nov 26, 2013.

  1. Hi All,

So got this new blank ECU uncoded (as per sale description, sticker and look it is new).

Plug it in and no real change to what was before.

From guide I found on Avant race parts site it says I am on step 2 as in system knows it is coded and flashes immobiliser light 3 times to indicate 3 keys.

I was under impression that un-coded ECU
would run with any dash or even with out one. Is that correct?

If not how do I make it all run?

  2. It will either be virgin (uncoded) or have the immobiliser disabled.

If it's virgin it will learn your key codes when you insert the red key and THEN insert a black key - it will stay virgin if you use only the red key.

If the immo has been removed it should start regardless.

If it doesn't do either then you need a refund ;)

  3. If it is genuinely a Virgin ECU then it should have worked out of the box with your current black key.

If the seller is uncooperative with a refund, all is not lost, as I can virginise the ECU for you. Just drop me a PM.

  4. Chrisw found a forum of yours on dun and loads of info there about guzizdiag, cool.

Well I have accidentally started it up, not only that. I still have air intakes blocked with rugs in case of screw/bolt going loose. Yet it started after 1 revolution, with no throttle, battery at 11.9V and 0C outside.

After wasting 3h of my time I have learned to not trust guy before me. I have checked all the electrics against diagram few days ago, I only left area around battery unchecked (hints earths).
Well one of them should have gone to ECU not 3rd engine.
Found it when I connected cable to plug in guzzidiag. It has its own earth that connects to battery. The moment I plugged in diagnostic plug everything went to life, lights, relays, ECU!!! and immobiliser light went off. WTF first, light bulb 2nd, search, connect, press reset settings and starter button next whoop it runs.
Still do not have left side indicators and no idea why?
Also when I switch ignition off indicators flash (well right side) 5 times until immobiliser comes on, is that normal?

  6. Wrong way round Antonye. It will stay virgin as long as you only use the BLACK key. A new immobiliser (or clocks in this case) will stay virgin until a black key is used.

  7. Think your both saying same thing

  8. Yep thx for that. The least I know where to start. Well where my electrician should start.

  9. Util a red key is used . Never use the red key and it will stay virgin

  10. All those comments about red key to never use it. Yet in s2r800 service manual there is a procedure to code ecu to dash and key, otherwise it will not code it. On Internet there is few videos for different models and all yet again talk about procedure to code it or ecu will stay uncoded. Which one is it?

  11. It doesn't need to be coded . If it is coded then thats the bike where it has to stay . Other than it going in for de-coding . If its never coded then it can be used in any bike . They came like that as an anti theft . clocks no good without ecu/ immobiliser etc but that was before technology caught up and many can now decode . It will work the same either way.

  12. I know but without immobiliser you can start it with screwdriver like my carb m900.

Antikid theft device I guess ;)

  13. Thats the choice you make . Code it or dont Code it . It will run the bike the same either way .

  14. The immobiliser is in two parts. The first part sits within the clocks and the second within the ECU. With a virgin ECU you still have the clocks part of the immo, so without the correct chipped key the bike won't start. As said above by not coding the ECU it can be resold. This is normally what is done with the DP ECU's so that they can be sold with the exhausts at a later date. If the ECU is stock and is staying with the bike then you may want to code it with the red key.

  15. did the oem 620 ECU work? if so if its cheap to get it flashed with 695 oepn pipes map via, why not send the 695 ECU back or sell it on?

tbh i'd leave it uncoded an carry a big chain, this will always be better than the immob anyway

  16. 620 ECU as a unit seems to be working but is not compatible with loom in current state. It gets confused a bit when I turn the ignition on. For example it does not know if stand is up or down until I short the two clutch switch wires, it does not switch off head lamp automatically after 1 min of ignition on but engine off, did not try to start bike. It is quite possible that after flashing 695 software it would work. I will try to get 620 one virginised and sell on.

I will also have mm air temp/pressure sensor for sale and few other bits.

  17. Is there a way to retrieve the immobiliser code that was present on card or better yet to change it on clocks, ECU and keys?

  18. This is it.

Needs oil change, fit chain, fix left indicator.

  19. Me as well, I am asking for another reason.

I have 2 keys out of 3 so would like to change the code if possible so 3rd key does not work.

If I have time I will do it manually it is 4 digits rights? It will take me about 15-20 min to get all 10 digits in and one of them immo led will have to blink for as accepted, then can do next one and so on.

If not it seems my dash is mostly broken as no rev counter, no back light, no indicator flasher, good knows if speed is good then so will get a dash and key set off ebay as ECU still uncoded
