I want to register a much newer engine on my V5C, the original engine # consisted of only seven numerical digits (I never had the original engine, only the frame). Do later documents show just the suffix number or the whole number including * and letters, The number on my new engine has 17 digits (including* and letters)........Question: Do I show all 17 digits? Thanks
The engine number on my Reg Doc just shows the seven numbers, but I think if I was doing what you are, I would show the full amount of digits on the form and leave it to the DVLA what they put on the Reg Doc. AL
When I bought my bike it only showed the the last six digits. When I did a search to see if there were any droblems with the bike it can back with a number of problems. To cut a long story short, this short VIN number as they call it was getting mixed up with other vehicles. The owner contacted the DVLA and sent them photos of the VIN and engine number. So you should put the the whole number in and I think when he filled the paperwork in he included the stars as well. Cheers, Gaz
I had problems with my bike when i first registered in UK, i put * down on the v5 application and it was accepted, V5 issued, but when i had to re-MOT it, when the MOT tester wrote it down he did not include them, this resulted in my TAX disk being withheld by the DVLA until another MOT tester had verified my number. In all it took several letters and trips to MOT stations and a great deal of hasstle all over the interpretation of an *!! My advice is go to an MOT station and ask the tester what he would put on the certificate and go from there.
Just checked my V5's and the engine numbers are shown like: ZDM1198WB-123456 (2009 15 digits) and ZDM998W4-123456 (2003 14 digits). Not an asterix in sight.
Thanks for all the replys...it looks like the people who type the information in, have different interpratations of what to put when faced with stars. I think as long as I have all the digits, I'll be OK. Thanks again!!!
