Hyside Motorcycles woes

  1. So, my Ducati Monster Evo arrives from Hyside (a very low mileage 2011/2012 model) and they tell me all is well with the bike and it's had it's pre delivery ride/check, etc.

    Off the van, take it for a ride and the rear brake doesn't work. Had it bled, no joy. So I take it to the dealer who tell me it's either air from the ABS/master cylinder or a seal gone. Either way it's a strip down and a few hours work.

    What do Hyside say, "well it was fine when it went on the van, it must have happened in transit. send it back to us". :rolleyes:

    Really, 300 miles away, it'll cost more in shipping than the repair. Yes I appreciate you take risks buying from distance but these were supposed to be a good dealer and told me the bike was in tip-top condition and it's only a couple of years old costing over 7k.

    So, I'm off to the citizen's advice to see exactly what distance selling and buying from trade gives me under the sale of goods act.

  2. You need to remove the caliper and raise it with the nipple uppermost. Then put something between the pads and bleed.

    When on the bike the caliper and nipple are too low relative to the M/C and air likes to rise so you will never get it out that way.
     
  3. It sounds like an easy fix, but it should never have arrived to you in that condition. They should collect the bike from you at their expense at a matter of good faith, especially as you are a new customer. You shouldn't have to pay a penny, especially considering the inconvenience. Very poor customer service imo

  4. Yes, because 300 miles in a Transit van always causes brakes to go spongy. How on earth do club racers cope?

  5. Any decent dealer would just ask you to drop it in it someone local and they pick up the tab. Not difficult!
     
  6. Well, as a starter I've emailed them asking for it to be directed to their general manager (whether it does or not I don't know as it might just end up at the salesman's intray ;)

    I've just told them of my displeasure at the response from their sales team and if nothing happens I'll be seeing them in the small claims court.

    Whether it's a small fix or not, I can't do it and it's affecting the riding of the bike so it's stuck in the garage.
     
  7. Well, just got an email back from Hyside and they're going to pay for the repairs at my local garage, which was more than I wanted (I would have been happy with paying what they would charge themselves internally) and I expected a rejection email.

    So normality returns and Hyside are back in my good books, apart from sales ;)

    Hopefully I may get to ride my bike normally without having to worry about front-braking round slow corners :)

  9. A google search for Hyside Motorcycles currently shows this thread on the first page, are you happy about that? It's not back to normal for them

  10. Perhaps the moral of this story is to let them make amends before slagging them off on the Internet, a bit like the recent Ducati Glasgow thread

  11. In fairness to Hyside i suspect the brake worked fine in the showroom. Small amounts of air in the system usually get worse with heat as the air expands. It's very common for the braking to come back when cold again so they could have genuinely been unaware of the issue if they didn't do a long ish test ride.

    Never use my back brake myself. I dab it once or twice a year on a hill junction while i take my hands off the bars and that is about it.
    Otherwise it's just ballast and for mot.
     
  12. The Ducati specialist I spoke to said it seemed like it more than just a simple bleed.

    As for slagging them off, they've made amends and I really appreciate their boss stepping in and sorting everything out, so if anyone searches they'll find it ended up fine. The issue and reason for my rant was the attitude and tone of the salesman telling me it was tough and I had to pay for it all, then telling me under law I had no redress. For which I was at the end of the tunnel and you shouldn't have to force a hand by writing to the dealership owner.

    As for the top spot, it'll soon go down. When I searched for Hyside I found a random thread at the top stating how good they were :)

  13. Hope they don't clock your (possibly hasty) original post header, or you might find a change of attitude.

    I was rushing around like a lunatic and someone shouted "More haste, less speed."

    When I went to my dealer he'd never heard of "haste".
     
  14. To be fair he did post after getting the brush off the first time. Maybe they did see the thread, and then decided to take action?
     
  15. Why would you call your business 'Hyside'? Why not 'Tank Slapper' or 'Ooooops, too much front brake, now I'm skidding down the road on my arse' :rolleyes:

  17. That place at the end of a parade of shops in Coliier Row has been Hyside Motorcycles since the late 70s IIRC.....

    ....No doubt ownership has changed several times, though (bit like Mottingham Motorcycles).....

  20. These are the same people who wouldn't let me test ride the 2013 multi as it was a little cold outside. I have never been back since.
