Iaw59m Ecu ( On A Monster 620ie)- Is This Normal?!

  1. I haven’t seen this before, and wondered what and why!
Started the bike up (been about a year gap sadly!) all ok for a minute, then it threw this message on the mileometer.
    upload_2025-8-24_10-28-45.jpeg I took

took it for a short ride and the numbers increased incrementally by 0.1 every time through to this upload_2025-8-24_10-32-21.jpeg
Wondered if it was a fuel light count up of some sort that I hadn’t seen before but it was only a 5 mile run, so it doesn’t add up in miles or km, and the bike started missing and popping increasingly as the ride went on. Tickover fine but worse as the revs rose.
Anyone got knowledge here that could help me head in the right direction first time?
    Thanks all! Jon

  2. Below is what Google AI suggested. I would start with the battery - fully charged or on its way out.

    ducati monster 620 ie odometer f 13.7
On a Ducati Monster 620 ie, an odometer flashing with "F 13.7" indicates a fault with the odometer's communication and is not a functional reading
. This is a common issue often caused by a weak battery or a disconnection in the wiring to the instrument cluster.
Here is a breakdown of the problem and how to address it:

    The issue
    • A sync error: The "F" preceding the number points to a communication error between the instrument cluster (where the odometer is displayed) and the bike's ECU.
    • The number is meaningless: The "13.7" is just a software default number, not an actual odometer reading or an error code you can interpret. The display is essentially showing a corrupted value.
    • Mileage is not lost: The actual mileage is still stored in the ECU and can be restored. The display is just unable to properly access and show it.

    Common causes
    • Weak or failing battery: This is the most common cause. A low battery voltage can disrupt the communication between the bike's electronics, causing the odometer to lose its sync with the ECU.
    • Wiring harness issue: Damage or a loose connection in the wiring harness that connects the instrument cluster to the rest of the bike can also trigger this error. This is especially possible if any recent work was done around the battery or main electronics.
    • Component failure: While less common, the issue could also be caused by a faulty instrument cluster or ECU.

How to fix the flashing odometer

    Check and charge the battery
    1. Inspect the battery: Check your battery connections to ensure they are clean and securely fastened.
    2. Use a battery tender: Charge your battery with a battery tender. A weak battery is the most likely culprit, and giving it a full charge can often resolve the issue.
    3. Test the battery: If the problem persists, have your battery load-tested by a mechanic to confirm it can hold a charge.

    Reset the electronics
    1. Disconnect the battery: Disconnect both battery terminals and touch the positive and negative leads together for about 30 minutes to discharge any remaining power from the system's capacitors.
    2. Reconnect the battery: Reconnect the battery, ensuring the connections are tight. This often forces the ECU and instrument cluster to resync.

    Professional intervention
    1. Diagnostic tool: If the issue continues, you will need a special diagnostic tool, such as the Ducati DDS or Texa tool, to resync the odometer with the ECU.
    2. Dealer or qualified shop: This procedure is best performed by a Ducati dealer or an independent shop with the necessary diagnostic equipment. They can read the true mileage from the ECU and flash it back to the instrument cluster.

  3. Hi Chris, thanks, I will try a 30 min pole short-out but to be clear, it has not stopped at 13.7; I just happen to have stopped riding when it got to 13.7. If I continued to ride I’m pretty sure it will continue to increment on the readout by 0.1 every x seconds.
I looked at google and AI before I posted. The battery is new, the odometer is not flashing, and in fact, when I turn the ignition on, the miles are shown as normal, then after about half a minute, it starts the “F” count-up from where it left off.
Strange one ! I will probably have to dig out JP diag, but I unfortunately have no real skills with that tool, so will be reliant on something jumping out at me!
