Without putting a Decat on or doing anything else to the bike, will i feel a difference or is it a waste of time? I intend doing it all a bit at a time when funds allow, so thought of starting with the easy part first then the Decat and new chain and 42 tooth rear sprocket, worth the effort or not??
If the exhaust valve is seized or corroded (as it may well be soon), removing it would be a help. If you keep it lubricated and operating freely - not so much. Plenty of old threads about this.
You will notice the bike being a lot smoother and a little louder, if you grind off the flap rivets and leave the shaft in place you won't get an error on the dash. My bike is a twinspark, not sure if the valve being seized on this model gives an error but earlier bikes do give an error.
I recently did mine. Slight improvement just off idle - pootling around town is easier - the bike feels less like it's bogging down if you're just trickling around using the torque just above idle. As someone else said, it's also very slightly louder - it's basically a bit deeper sounding. I fitted a servo eliminator device - they're about £30 off ebay. I recently uploaded some pics in another thread which may help you with the servo removal.
My twin spark has the valve seized open and no errors on the dash. Im not on a hurry to free it off after reading this thread.
Only the single spark model reports a seized open exhaust flapper as a fault. I'd suggest that seizing it open is the first, best and cheapest modification for the multistrada.
If you plan to decat and remap there's not much point in removing the valve now and spending out unnecessarily on an eliminator if its working OK. The remap and the decat will do away with it anyway. I had my SF valve removed because I run the standard headers but it was done as part of a custom remap and some other work so its hard to say how much difference it would have made in isolation. It does sound a bit deeper, a bit cleaner, less metallic, but its not offensive or significantly louder. Its a big lump of metal and wires gone as well.
I noticed mine was covered in crap when the ham fisted tyre monkey was trying to hammer off the exhaust that was stuck (he didn't know it was a twist and pull fitment) I was going to clean it all up this weekend, having read this thread I may not bother (2013 GT twinspark)
