Stumped on this one....ill give you the run down.... 1. Cleaned bike last week. SDOc round the brakes, engine, swing arm. hoses off very lightly and then mopped it all dry once done gave it a going over with dry cloth and wd40. 2. At some point don't know when I noticed the engine error light on - no other errors. 3. Read that if you enter the code key number this can clear engine light errors. 4. Put code key in which it took, started the bike no problems..... And that's where its gone south.....to now start the bike I have to put the code in every time. Ive tried entering the code with the other key but no luck... At this point whenever I turn the key I get a quick countdown with "key 1" on the left then it goes to "PROG OFF" display reads normally, but I can start the bike. I push down on the left hand lower switch to see the "IMMO" error push up to get "00000 CODE" - enter the code and then I can start the bike. Ive read up that sometimes the sensor ring round the ignition can be a problem but its connected. Checked all the wiring, everything connected, once the bike starts which it does fine all electrics are working fine, lights, indicators, brake lights, stand switch etc etc.... So at this point im stumped. If anyone's got an insight im all ears...
OK. Well, I'm back to where I was. It looks like I put the bike into key programming mode and it was stuck in a loop. For anyone else that finds themselves here from googleland..... While the dash shows "key" and then does the countdown, you have to quickly put the other key in straight after then it will then say " prog OK", so, I'm back where I started....engine light on, nothing more....but at least it starts normally again...
Well......the light is out....took it to riders today ( bristol ) on the off chance I could speak to a mechanic to pick his brains....even better he hooked it up....fuel sender sensor error, plus a host of other errors....probably me unplugging stuff while looking for the problem....anyway, errors cleared, light out, but if it triggers again that's what it is....the worst thing will be getting the tank off to get to the sensor....
The IMMO aerial (inside the ignition lock cover) is really delicate and sensitive to water/cleaning. I've cleaned mine twice this year and have got IMMO error and not been able to start it. It seems the water either disrupts the reading of the key or gets into a connector and stops it from being read correctly. First time this happened I got the manual out and read how to do the override with the code, and then stored the code in my phone for future use. Second time it happened I had already pre-empted it and knew I wasn't going to need the bike all weekend. Both times the bike has dried out by the next day and works fine.
Not this time - the washing part I mentioned was purely coincidental. The IMMO error was down to me putting it in to key programming mode, and, not realizing it....I got a photocopy of the list of errors that he cleared - these were errors from sections of the loom that id pulled (seeing if I could resolve the light, by reseating a cable/plug). While it was at the dyno last month the dyno lad said that there was a fuel sender error (before he even laid a hand on it) - this was confirmed by the fact that now and again I would turn the ignition the dash would clear and pop up with the engine error light, id start the bike for a sec and then click it off and back on again, and the light would disappear....putting 2 and 2 together I would guess this is the fuel sender error. Anyway as I say, he's cleared the errors but if it pops up again then I know its the sender, and top be honest im gonna find out how much the sender is anyway and if its cheap then just order one anyway and put it in....
