Hi, got my first Ducati, a 996 Biposto, just a couple months ago, and I'm loving it so far, but it tends to crank pretty slow. I don't know if it's just a Ducati thing or what, but I've been reading about these heavy duty cables that supposedly improve it. I've found these and also these. Just wondering if anyone has tried them and if they're worth it, I know the latter isn't it cheap, but if it works.. I've no doubt most of you are able to just make your own, but I'd rather just buy them to be honest. Also any other ways to improve reliability would be appreciated. Cheers, Matt Oh and great forum btw. Been very handy so far
I fitted a set bought of ebay £25 good quality and noticed quicker turnover. Will post a link when i am on the computer. Steve
Halfords sell heavy duty battery leads in varying lengths, should be cheaper than anything Ducati branded...
I agree with Dukedesmo, the Halfords cables will be a lot cheaper that the items in your links. The key point is to reduce the electrical resistance between the battery terminals and the starter motor terminals by increasing the cross section of the copper cable so if possible run the new cables in parallel with the old cables for maximum effect. Also make sure that all connections are really clean and there is no oxidation on the connecting surfaces. Once the job is complete smear the assembled connections with silicone grease to keep out any moisture and so reduce the chance of corrosion. IMO the last of your two links gives a lot of over hyped marketing guff that can be ignored. Hope this helps.
On my old fuglystrada I ran another earth cable from the battery to the engine block. Helped out a lot.
