1200 In A Real Quandary !!!!

  1. Hello all, I currently own a 2014 base model multistrada, just got back from a test ride on a Dvt model, God I'm in a quandary !!
Had to follow a chap from the dealership, due to Ducati insurance stipulation,
We were out for a good hour, unfortunately the roads we rode were not familiar to me,but in fairness we did take in most road conditions, the first thing I did ( once I worked out how ) was to change riding mode from sport to touring, that's how I have my current bike, so thought it best, obviously the first thing I noticed was how smooth the Dvt is compared to my current bike, being able to ride in a higher gear at lower speeds, a lot less changing down the gearbox, I'm 6 foot, the seat was set on the lowest position, on my current bike I can't quite put both feet flat to the floor, on the Dvt my feet were flat with my legs very slightly bent, the seat would need to come up a little for optimum comfort, also because my legs weren't extended as much, I suffered slight cramp, I felt as if I was sat in the bike , rather than on it, super Moto style, which I prefer if that makes sense??
What was definately worse than my current bike, was the clock display panel vibration, right through the rev range, I was really surprised by that ! And I think the Dvt clock display is far too busy compared to my current bike, also the slightest sunlight on the display made me have to squint to read it accurately,I really liked the cruise control, it worked very well
    But oh my....that engine !!!!!
The bark !!!! the power !!!!
I'm in love with the engine, it's a stunner !!!
I just about prefer the styling of the Dvt over my current bike, it's a close call though styling wise for me personally, I'm a fan of the extended beak.
The test ride has left me in a real quandary !!!!

  3. The Clock display on my DVT only vibrates under load at around 3k-4k and is then fine.
I am sure you can change the brightness on the LCD display.

  4. Good luck if your trying to PX your bike Steve, i have the same model and have been looking to PX for the new one as i too was impressed, 8k was the best the dealer could offer. i have to say i was more than a little surprised, decided i'll stick with what i have as there is not really anything wrong with it!!

  5. The next multistrada dvt 2016 (hopefully better seat quality) model is going to be announced soonish (informed by a forum member). Then there will be offers of free panniers with the current 2015 dvt model over xmas can you hold off??

  6. Very interesting !?
Although, I've been offered free panniers with this current 2015 Dvt deal
    I didn't think there would be a revised model in 2016 ?
    We've just had a new model for 2015 ?
Think it will be at the NEC show in Nov/ December ?

  7. Pikes Peak is a deffo .

  8. I really hope so..I have until then to brainwash SWMBO into letting me risk my life again and get out on the road.
So far I haven't been very successful.
Me:..... but the Pikes Peak was the best all round bikes I've ever ridden.
Her: well that was the perfect one to go out (end) on then!
We have 4 motorcycles left here and she's making plans for all of them to leave!

She does have a very good point and at present l've literally not got a leg to stand on.

  10. They didn't cut yer 'nads off while you were under the knife, did they?

  11. May be?

  12. I would argue that even pirates went on to lead successful lives after the full loss of a leg. Yours is just temporarily broken so the effect on your life and biking should only be temporary. Then call her meharty!

  13. All my injuries occurred in a motorcycle accident, within a stones throw of my home, at under 30mph and without a collision with any other motor vehicle.
I'll be lucky if she let's me have a bicycle.

    PS.
I did say at present...about the leg....I won't be anywhere near to normal until Easter.
The whole pirate capper isn't going to work as my brother (who is around my house 5 days a week) actually lost his leg this August.
    Thanks for the love.
    Sorry for the thread hijack.
On a serious note I'm looking forward to a new model on the Multistrada that addresses the few niggles that have appeared on this forum. E.g
    Screen vibration and fragility (scratches).

  15. Take up golf and get a buggy to get you around. Then you can cover it in carbon and anodised bits, less pikes peak more sandy balls

Lets go back to the "quandary" as OP mentions its real and hes in it, but what is it ?

  17. No quandary here, if I could afford a new bike I would have one. Leave all my worries of 2010-2014 multi engine failures behind me.

  18. No quandary here either. My 2013 ST is brilliant, looks much better than the DVT, has a durable dash, the panniers match the bike, it is not being currently Beta tested by "early adopters", and only "owes" me about £11k including all the bling, £7.5K after deducting sale of my previous bike.

  19. @AirCon tell her your recuperation is being aided (mentally) by the thought of motorcycling again one day. If you didn't have that you would spiral into a deep pit of depression.(it worked with me when I had a bad off on my RSV a few years back). On second thoughts maybe not she is now my ex wife......:)
