Following a conversation with an experienced engine builder, it seems a no brainer that if you want to develop the delivery characteristics of engine power and torque, varying the valve timing is easier with the later (998) indexing cam pullies than the earlier (748/996) woodruff key cam pullies. So the question is, has anyone tried to fit the later indexing cam pullies on a 748 ? Thanks, Andy
You can't use the 998 pulleys as they are the later, larger diameter. You can use the pulleys off the later 2V motors, ST's etc. though. There are also aftermarket ones available. I think Luigi Moto had some a while back. Takes time and a few tools to do it. Rear exhaust are a pain in the arse if the motor is in the frame, but there's a bit to be had. Even by setting everything just so to spec's helps a fair bit.
Gentlemen, thank you. It's purely academic today but having ordered an EVR 853cc conversion kit for the 748RS rebuild at the end of the season, I feel the need for a technical challenge . Andy
