So a couple of weeks ago I was rear ended in the company lease car. It had the most slightest minimal damage to license plate, license plate holder and a very faint dent in de rear fender. Now the other driver was a young lad and we filled in the insurance forms etc. He admitted to his fault on the forms and signed it. The next day his father calls and implores me to fix it outside of the insurance. We accorded a small sum of 150 euro, and that was the end of it. Behold, today I get an email from the car lease company that there has been accident reported and that I need to send in the forms within 5 days. Mind you I never reported any accident or sent in the form. I did however see the lad on the phone after the crash with his insurance company. It is now obvious to me that he himself reported the crash and gave them my license plate nr. What would you do now?
He hit you from behind, and admitted liability. No problem - let your insurance company sort it out...
Thing is he is "starting" driver so his insurance would sky rocket. That's why I thought lets help him out. And I did accept his payment. But somehow someway he himself did report the accident to his insurance company and passed my licenseplate nr.
Look after yourself on this one, Yes you've done your gesture, and very kind you are, yes he has contacted his insurance, Fact, his insurance as registered an accident into the central insurance system, they've informed your company, you need to follow your insurance companies lead, you need to mention what you have done and it may be frowned at, but I have had to re-open a rear end shunt when someone hit me from behind, the reason as my company could not apparently respond with enough evidence and was left to be blamed and it was recorded as "me at fault" , I contacted my insurance and kindly asked WTF, I've had the case reopened accident changed to pending resolution, LOOKED AFTER NUMBER ONE
Seems like I'll mail in the filled in form. I'll at least call him and ask what's up since it must be him who reported the accident.
Same thing happened to my mom and all you need to do is call the other driver up and get him to call his insurance company. He needs to tell them to cancel the claim and contact your insurance company to cancel it with them as well.
I think you're in for grief anyway, a leased company car isn't your property, and you'll find that the lease company, ie the owner, will want to do things their way and be informed of any incidents
You can't simply cancel the claim now they know. Insurers want you to divulge ANY accidents, even if you've not claimed. It's their way of upping your premiums even more. Now they know, it'll go on record anyway so the young lad may as well save his cash and let his insurers pay up. You could just give him the cash back. His fault for not thinking of settling cash instantly but he's young and we all live and learn. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
