Insurance Renewal (here We Go!)

Discussion in 'Insurance - Sponsored by Ducati Insurance' started by chizel, Oct 11, 2018.

  1. howdy peoples...
been with ducati insurance for 3 or 4 years now and have to say i have nothing bad to say about em... had a couple of claims and both have been dealt with very well ...but.... renewal is due in a few weeks and they are now telling me the wont or cant insure my 748 or 900 as they have no mot... they are both currently sorn as im not using em.... i would have thought this a bonus for them (happy to pay the old rate) as there is no chance of an accident and only fire or theft is an issue.
haven't shopped around at all as , as we all know, it is a life sucking, painful experience and having just been shafted in the rear to the tune of £1200 for van (price tripled due to the theft of my 749 last year) (although how that makes my van more likely to be involved in an incident i do not know )
im not looking forward to it....
my 748 is the biggest pain as i had it insured for an agreed value of 12.5k , sounds like alot but thats what i spent on it.
anyhu, questions are: WTF is ducati insurance on about? i asked em this and asked surely you insure ducatis (track, show, collectors bikes) that dont have mots... and who would be the best port of call for insurance of this kind if ducati insurance no longer want my hard earned?

  2. Try bemoto

  3. Footman James insured one for me this year on a laid up policy for £123.04 - agreed value £14500.
@AirCon used them on my recommendation and got a similar deal I think.
Don't think anyone will get close to FJ tbh :):upyeah:

  5. Unfortunately, I have been with them for 17 years, no claims or convictions or any other changes since forever but my premium has gone up by over 38% as the underwriter has pulled the plug on bike insurance and that's the best price that they can get. I am a loyal type but will have to look after my best interest now which is a shame concidering where I work.

  6. how do you get on insuring so many bikes?

  7. Strategically insure some and not others - but I'm currently looking at a specialist policy to cover all laid up bikes to see if I can get a deal. Putting a document together to prove all my security and stuff :eyes:
You can get house insurance up to £500,000 for £150 so laid up insurance is a rip off even at the price I quoted above. Fine for one bike but it soon adds up!

  8. Yep, I been told if you don't intend to use it's not covered. Probably cheaper to just MOT for £30 than take out separate insurance.

  9. Be moto, I insure my 1199 road bike and s1000rr track bike on the same policy , the track bike is insured against theft and against damage in the back of the van if its involved in accident .it has no tax or mot

  10. Insured my SORN'd and non-MOT bikes for several years with no problems, but that was about eight+ years ago.

Maybe things have changed and insurance companies are becoming even more hateful and useless than previously. Hard to imagine that.

  11. I recently tried Ducati insurance, in Hertfordshire somewhere. A mere £1500 for 1 bike. Insane.

Try MCE, I go round in a circle every year and end up with them. I’ve got a multibike policy. £600 ish. The best bet is to go to them on Black Friday if you can. Good discount. I missed it last year by a day, bugger.

Also, I got a quote from MCN raft of insurers etc etc. Yeah, MCM Compare: They came up with a company called Lexham insurance at £274!!! Worth finding out about. Have no idea what they’re like.

Thieving scroates in London make any policy double what it would be outside London. I considered moving my bikes out of town as I always immediately head out of town anyway. Price was half the London price.
