I think there's a ghost in my machine!! On a couple of occasions now I've been out on the bike and after a stop I've got back on it, turned the ignition key and the bike has fired up on its own without touching the starter button...wtf?? Luckily as the bike was in gear, I'd pulled the clutch in first or the bike would have been on the floor!! On Saturday I got on it, turned the ignition key on ( all good so far ) but as soon as I swung the sidestand up, the bike fired up, again without touching the starter button?? Anyone had the same happen? any clues to whats going on?? Or, is it better to use the kill switch and leave the starter button covered until your ready to hit it??? Seems a bit wierd to me... Poucher
Have read about the same thing happening, I think on here or on 899panigale.org Fix was to have the starter button and housing replaced.
Remove the starter switch housing from the handle bar and give it a squirt of WD40. Worked on the girlfriend's Diavel and had no problems since. It would appear that the current switches are not that moisture proof so I have started to do this as routine maintenance at the same time as I clean and lubricate the chain. Andy
Fair point but I understand that there are concerns about the longer term exposure of plastic to ACF50. Only time will tell. Andy
Yea my 1199 done this a few times Silicone spray on the switch gear seems to do the trick for a while I just need to get into the habit of doing it each time I use the bike. You can actually see the switch stuck in .
Can't find anything on Google other than it's fine on plastics - including Aviation and Marine discussions / web sites. The only mention is using plastic care products on plastic as they are far cheaper.
