748 Is This A 748r Clutch.....

  1. Wot is fitted to my 900ss ie?

    The guy I bought my (heavily modded) bike off said the owner before him had fitted a slipper clutch. I took this with a pinch of salt because it didn't feel like a slipper clutch, and having owned a 748R and crashed it because I wasn't used to the free-wheeling effect of a slipper clutch, I know what they feel like, but lo and behold, this is what was behind the pressure plate when I took it off.

    Just want to check before I buy a clutch pack.

    Thanks

  2. Sadly the only way to tell is to strip the whole thing down. Andy PS have sent you some information.

  3. looks like the standard ramp slipper 748r clutch rather than a standard 748 clutch, someone with better tech knowledge will confirm or deny

  4. All he needs to do is look at the inside of the pressure plate.
    No teeth = slipper
    Teeth = not a slipper

  5. Oh it's defo a slipper as it has a spider and the pressure plate has no teeth but what I want to know is, is it a 748R slipper?

  6. If it has three balls and ramps it's likely to be from a 748R as all the aftermarket ones that I have ever come across have 4 ramps\balls. It could also have some markings on it that would indicate it is Ducati OE.

  7. I think 748R original slipper is 3 ramps, no balls - same as 749R.

  8. My old 748R was bereft of balls...

  9. That's correct, the 748R clutch is ramp only and not very subtle in its operation

  10. This one was subtle in its operation as I didn't even notice it was a slipper clutch until I took the pressure plate off! :p

  11. All the ones I've seen have 6 balls
