So here I am in the boot shaped land I call my motherland, as it stands I have my trusty Uno here which I inherited from my dear old papa, and the insurance is now at the point of renewal. So here's the connumdrum, other than the small but important detail that I come from the Wild West known as the Campania region (and therefore get spay on and sneered at by smug northerners) I'm having troube accepting that I should be paying some six hundred plus euro's for a car which in england would cost me less than a hundred quid to insure. the only saving grace is that here in the old country there is the possibility to 'freeze' insurance whereby you tell them you're not using it and your insurance goes into suspended animation, and you can restart it at any point within a 6 month period in no less than one month blocks. So, going on this I could potentially get six years worth of insurance for my 700 euro's which when you look at it like that it doesn't look too bad - until one realises that to restart the insurance it costs you forty to eighty euros at a time. So.... because of this, I wonder if anyone knows any insurance companies in the UK who will insure a foreign car abroad - which will allow me to use my UK NCB? Somehow I don't think that I'll have any joy in hunting down anyone in this region of salt of the earth thieves and blaggers who will look at my UK no claims. I mean come on, I even still put my seat belt on!! thanks in advance
Don't have an answer but just wondered where in Campagna your folks are from. Mine are from Basilicata.
Benevento, I can hear the toes curling from all the northern Italians at work when I mention the word! We come from a small village 20 KM away. As you can appreciate its a pain in the arse as everything's done through knowing everyone else, so nobody questions why somethings so expensive - they just go to the Cartolleria to get their insurance because he's there! Not to mention he only deals with Milano insurance which is like shopping at M&S for your daily groceries!
Mine are from a village called Genzano di Lucania. Nearest big town is Potenza. I love going for a holiday once in a while but couldn't see myself living there.
Absolutely, holidaying is good, and I promised myself that if I got made redundant i'd spend a couple of months out here, but as for living out here I think i'd be driven nuts by the villager mentality and the way that it's miles from anywhere. I'd like to get a place in italy, and possibly get rid of the family home once mum's no longer with us, but if I did I think i'd gun for something which I could earn some cash from as a holiday let as well. I love venice and Rome, but buggered if I could afford to live there, since I'm far too honest and stupid to work in banking. Not to mention i'd lose the SS down a crack in the roads!
