Keeping kit with bike ?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by crazy harry, Dec 19, 2013.

  1. does anyone keep their bike kit, leathers, helmet etc in the garage with their bike ? I am considering getting a dedicated bike kit rack or similar and thought about keeping it all together in the (secure) garage. good or bad idea ?

  2. Heated garage or completely freezing?
I wouldn't put my kit in my totally unheated garage. It's in unheated part of the house - which is not ideal, but that's the way it is.

  3. Condensation and dewey mould is your enemy. I know from experience. And once it takes hold, that stink never goes...

  4. My bike is in one garage and my kit is in the the other garage which, like Glid's, is in an unheated part of the house. Works for me.

  5. My stuff is in my garage, but the garage is dry and don't have a problem, having the boiler in there helps.
I'm planning on installing a radiator in the garage whilst the new boiler and cellar renovations are being done.
If your garage is attached to your house it wouldn't be too big a job to install a radiator.

  6. I wouldn't leave a helmet or gloves anywhere near my unattended bike even if the garage is attached to the house

  7. Ventilation is key, regardless of whether the garage is heated or not. If you put your stuff in still, cold air it'll grow a fur coat overnight, and as bradders says, the smell never goes away.

  8. All my kit is in the wardrobe. protecting my '1/2' of the wardrobe by infiltration from her '1/2'. Should I move it my '1/2' would be a '1/5'.

  9. I have one of those helmet shelf/hanging rack thingies in the garage for my kit, however my garage is heated so no problems there.

  10. I have a wardrobe purely for the bike kit. This is just one of the benefits of not having a wife...

  11. Same as Fig, i have one of those cheap canvas robes which is full of kit plus the occasional non bike coat

  12. If I didnt have a wife, I wouldn't have a wardrobe. Its a necessary evil.

All I had was a rolled up carpet, a telly and a hifi. Now I seem to have all this handy stuff. Like cookers and fridges.

  13. If I did t have a wife, I wouldn't have a garage. I'd have a big extension where the bikes live in the dining room and a workshop

    we can all dream...

  14. And there was me thinking you were a Dura Garage type of guy  - I have a cheap Ikea wardrobe and a two tier clothes rack from Argos

  15. True brad but then again all my clothes wouldn't miraculously arrive clean in my drawers and wardrobe. Neither would I get fed properly. It'd be junk food and i'd have had a coronary 20yrs ago.

  16. Char you need to come see my garage...its as far from Dura as you can get without quite reaching Figs ;-)
    lol

  17. No, mine's a proper fitted wardrobe, built by me. I'm currently taking dimensions with a view to moving the Guzzi into the dining room, too:upyeah:

  18. Nah...you'd have spent the spare time down the gym and still, even at your age, look like Adonis himself ;-)

  19. Sounds cool Fig...all i ever get is moved to the spare room...

  20. gym? lol. I'm the most sedentary bloke on the planet. Ive taking being lazy to new depths.
