Apologies if this has been covered but I couldn’t find anything. Opinions or recommendations for Kevlar trousers that are suitable for wearing in an office environment please. Also are they reasonably waterproof ?
Try Motolegends for Rokker chinos, not cheap and not waterproof though. Rokker do a jean that's allegedly waterproof but the denim look might not be appropriate for office wear. Both my girlfriend and I have Rokkertech jeans, we're absolutely delighted with them. Fit like a decent slim fashion jean a bit thicker but offer serious abrasion resistance if their claims are to be believed (haven't heard to the contrary). 3DO armour at knees and hips. Single layer, the abrasion resistance is woven in, so reasonably cool to wear in hot weather. I had a pair of Hood Kevlar jeans, denim over the abrasion resistance so two layers, some time back that were as hot as leathers, they went onto eBay shortly after purchase. In comparison to the Rokkers they looked crap off the bike too. Motolegends is a great outfit (no affiliation other than satisfied customer). They will take the time to ensure that you're happy with your choice and have extensive warehouse stock on site for a broad choice. More like a bespoke tailor with tea/coffee offered on arrival and good service.
Also just purchased the Rokkertech and delighted with them , but also have some black waterproof rev’it black jeans that I’ve worn to the office for a few years . They can be a bit warm , but other than that they’ve been great . Haven’t tested the abrasion resistance and they lost some colour , but I’ve washed them lots
I don't own any of these, but I do plan to in the very near future... I've just been too busy to rob a bank to pay for them. I want Kevlar that goes the full length of leg therefore giving full protection, provision of hip and knee armour that is removable, "styled" to some degree, waterproof (though some owners reviews say that this is not 100%). I have only found Rokker that offers all these qualities.I'mI hoping someone else can suggest another company that does all the above for less money? I suppose it will still depend on what you do/ where you work!
Thanks for the suggestions so far. Bit like @Jez900ie though not that worried about totally waterproof, be nice if they were ok in a bit of light rain. My office isn’t strict, but jeans wouldn’t work unfortunately. Also just a summer thing so no liner and cooler the better ( temperature not style, I’m way past style)
Thank you. To be honest £80 ish sounds better on the bank. Maybe stretch to £150. Will have a look. Thanks again.
The full length Kevlar thing is for the old style jeans that have a layer of denim and then another layer of Kevlar. This adds bulk and an insulation effect that makes them as hot as leather in my experience. Single layer is just that, the denim material being actually made from, in the Rokkertech jeans case, Armalith. This allows, to a certain extent, a little airflow and being a single layer they are far cooler to wear. There are other manufacturers with single layer jeans, it's not just Rokker. Unfortunately they all tend to be at the expensive end of the price range. Maybe a pair of black denim single layer jeans might be acceptable as office wear so long as they're uniformly black rather than stonewashed in style? Something like the Spidi J&Dyneema jeans, these can be bought for around £240 if you look around. The Rokker chinos use Scholler Dynatec, not Armalith, but still apparently have a decent level of protection. I did try a pair on but preferred the fit, feel and look of the Rokkertech jeans. The chinos being a looser fit I was concerned about armour movement in the event of an off.
Thanks Bumpkin, when I wrote "Kevlar" I meant protection integral in the whole length & not patches or some interior liner. Whilst I know its not literally correct i used Kevlar as an adjective for fabric protection - who the fcuk knows what Aramalith or Scholler Dynatech is? To me one sounds like a Stark Trek character & the other something you should use on the slopes! I will look up the others you mention in your link though! Incidently, have you ridden through rain wearing yours yet and if so what were the waterproofing capabilities like?
Had a quick look around. Single layer, in my opinion seems to be the ‘latest thing’. not knocking it all but wonder if the prices are artificially high ? Couldn’t see any under £300ish. Wondering now if the sub £100 are worth a try or not.
Wore them on a tour to the Dolomites last year. There was a heat-wave ongoing here in the UK at the time. Being the Rokkertechs they are positively not waterproof, it's the Revolutions that claim to be, they let heavy rain though almost immediately, a light shower after a minute or two. If a brief summer shower and otherwise warm temperatures I'd be tempted to ride on an allow any dampness to dry. Given the fact that there is some air flow this doesn't take long. anything more and I'd be stopping to don my Held breathable over-trousers and jacket. Just as well I packed those as it rained for most days of our trip. Was comfortable on the few warm days and also fine in the rain with waterproofs over the top. I wore a Dainese perforated jacket with a Dainese jeans attachment accessory that weaves into your belt and the belt loops of the jeans and then zips to the joining zipper of the jacket. TCX short baseball type riding boots as well. The only part that felt somewhat vulnerable were my shins. The Rokkertechs are too slim fitting to wear bike boots with significant shin protection underneath.
Again many thanks Bumpkin. I want to have some rain protection and it is the Rokker Revolution that I have at the top of my list. Can I ask why you chose Rokkertech instead of Revolution? I am really interested in opinions of people who have actually bought and used this gear - I really don't want to buy £300 jeans only to find there was a more suitable option!
I hadn’t looked there, as we don’t tend to use it. Think I’ve proved myself wrong anyway https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/429011
I bought the jeans for fair weather use. I ride recreationally only, no commuting. I also have a fairly extensive bike kit wardrobe I've built up over the years but nothing for warmer weather that offers a great deal in the way of protection. The Revolution jeans don't flow any air, the Rokkertechs do. Also the styling of the Revolution jeans don't have the same slim fit as the Rokkertechs or quite the right feel. Spending that much they had to be right. Throwing on over-trousers if it rains isn't a problem for me. For a day's ride-out if it looks like rain on the forecast I'd probably be wearing something else anyway. The style, fit and comfort of the Rokkertechs are great. Myself and girlfriend rode to a National Trust property the other day, put the helmets, gloves and jackets in the panniers and top-box of my Multistrada and spent the afternoon walking around the gardens, tea and cake in the restaurant and despite it being warm were quite comfortable. She has Rokkertechs and similar TCX boots. She also has the Rokker Black jacket which she loves. The Hood jeans I bought all those years ago were expensive enough, especially as I wore them twice before selling them on eBay (poor fit and too warm). I didn't want to make the same mistake twice. If you're passing Guildford then drop into Motolegends and try some on. I would recommend this approach rather than mail order as they have not only all the waist sizes of the various types but also different leg lengths.
Nail on head! That the reason I haven't bought yet. Revolution = no air flow but mostly waterproof vs RTech airflow but no rain protection... Thanks - looks like I will have to wait for the Techrevolution!
I'm not sure it's possible to get fully waterproof bike jeans. It's a bit of an oxymoron. If they're 'jeans' and cool enough to let the air flow in the summer then they aren't going to be waterproof. Alan, you say you can't wear jeans in the office either so that leaves chinos unless you want to change when you get to the office as suggested above. +1 here for Motolegends. Scan their web site then take a trip to Guildford and spend some time in their store trying on different brands and fits. When I was there a couple of weeks ago they had a good selection chino type trousers from a variety of manufacturers at different price points. If it rains on the way to the office then just don these https://www.motolegends.com/trousers/scott-ergo-pro-dp-rain-pant-black.html Alternatively, use the car that day
Single skin CE approved jeans for £149, including armour. No idea what they're like though, for quality or fit. https://www.roadskin.co.uk/shop/roadskineasyriders/
