Keyless Fob Timing Question

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Jaytmon, Sep 9, 2022.

  1. Hi folks, newbie here & second time Ducati owner.

I have a 1260 PP with keyless ignition. Can anyone definitively tell me how long it takes, with the engine running, for the ‘No Key’ warning to appear on the dash when the key is out of range?

Reason I’m asking is like a numpty I’ve managed to lose the key (for the second time embarrassingly) most probably by leaving it attached to the key in the top box after unlocking said top box and riding off. I noticed the warning appear a few miles from home on a back lane and figured if I knew the timings I could roughly work out the best place to look with borrowed metal detector! Long shot but cheaper than another £180 or so.

    Cheers

  2. The only time I left the key in the seat lock on the MTS the dash warned me after a few hundred yards. Fortunately the key was still there.

  3. Was that a few hundred yards at low speed or higher speed?!

    I worked out 30 seconds at 45mph equates to about 3/8 of a mile. However if it’s 10 seconds then it’s a different matter…!

  4. Pretty low, probably around 10 - 20 mph

  5. Any Multistrada owners out there able to test this out for me? According to the manual, with the engine off, the dash will switch off if key is not present for 30 consecutive seconds. I’m working on this to decide on a search area - it’s a country lane with verges and ditches both sides so it would be useful to know that I’m not several hundred metres out…I have so far found an inordinate number of half-buried drinks cans… will to continue searching is rapidly diminishing with each additional can!
