can anyone clarify, I see stacks of people on the road with them but reading hugely conflicting info on the web ...
no idea .. But I have an agv with the agvisor ( etint thing) thing and it's good. First gen stuff but the idea rocks
Just me, I always understood it as a visor requires a b/s standard and kite mark to be present on the visor, any tint on these legal visors will have been approved to a mild tint similar to the drivers window on a car, i.e. a certain amount of tint but a bare minimum. Generally if it is advertised as a race visor then it's not legal on the road. If it hasn't got a kitemark and or a b/s mark then it goes into the "technically illegal" area. Should you be involved in an accident whilst wearing a dark visor it "could" be taken into account I've never been pulled up for just a visor issue but it has been mentioned when I have been pulled up for something else and it's been said, change it over buddy it's too dark. Some people use a dark visor but then also has a clear second visor in a visor bag Generally I ride with a medium to dark tint visor as long as it is day use and I rarely worry about it.
The visor on the xlite here is completely black to look at and is for race use only, One on the shoei is tinted and legal, tbh looks pretty nice, Can wear it most of the time but I'm not keen on it when dark outside, Cant see into helmet when fitted, The xlite one is perfect on sunny days but other than that crap, like said if you had a serious accident it would certainly be taken into account, ive never been pulled with ether and pass police in town a lot
As I understand it, to be legal, a tinted visor must allow 70% of the day time ambient light through but you cannot wear a tinted visor at night or in poor visibility. True to UK legal form, poor visibility is not defined but I'd suggest rain, heavy spray or fog ie when cars are required to have dipped beam headlights on. Dark visors tend to conform to the rule of 3, speeding, small number plate and dark visor will get you done whereas just a dark visor on its own on a sunny day won't. Andy
Ive had dark tinted visor on my AGV hemlet for 9 years with no problem. Its stamped on it "day time use only" I only ride when sunny so no problem there. If you want a tinted visor then just get one you will be fine.
I've had a dark visor from day 1 never had a problem even when pulled over by the fuzz for speeding ect ect.
Android is correct ... I'ts gotta let 70% of natural light through. Basically any tinted visor fails this hence no BS markings. However, even Police bikers have tinted visors and they would have to be a proper prick to do you for it. Unless its night then you deserve getting done for wearing one.
It usually comes down to the individual plod who stops you,how much you have pissed him off and what else you have done wrong! A loud exhaust, popping a wheelie, riding like a twat and a small rear number plate will all help to get your black or iridium visor commented upon!
My legal AGV tint let in so much sun, it wasn't usable as my ride to work has the sun right at eyeliner for a good 15 mins of twisties. I was going into corners basically blind, it was worse than not having a visor down at all as it seemed to spread the blindness over the entire visor rather than being a spot of sun. Upgrading to a black race visor worked. I've never had an issue but then, I've always been incredibly lucky in my years and never had a pull.
9 years on one visor? It doesn't need a tint, it will be so foggy from scratches it must be like looking through a glass of milk!
