  1. Aarrgghhh....

have a corse quick twist petrol cap, its seeping petrol from around outside / underneath cap rim. Not leaking from cap you twist on / off.

I dont got orig petrol cap, bought bike without, owner mislaid it!

Any links or ideas (apart from fleebay) where id get a petrol cap replacement that works and a reasonable price?

    Tks.

    ;)

  2. remove it, clean it, grease it, put a new o ring on it.........

  4. Tks Andy. Took cap off completely, no oring but hasnt leaked. Still needvto address it.

will bang up a pic later.

    cheers.

  5. What you make of this Andy ?

    NO o-ring.

I made sure the rubber breather was in line with the cap when it wwnet back on. Its a snug but, but id be sure there should be an oring too. ( not sure if one can be gotten )

But if you look at pic, plastic tank thats proud sticking out, fits into the fuel cap.

  7. That's the overflow hole and seal. If its a genuine RS or a copy of one, then they were designed to work with a secondary breather valve off a spigot in the top of the tank.
It should still breath to some degree though. Check the drain is clear, if it is, then the rubber might be getting crushed tight by the cap when fitted. That looks like a 1098 tank?? If so, the drains are to the rear on the RHS near the engine breather. Two pipe T into one.
Looks like the paint around the cap is getting damaged btw :(

  8. Yeah, its genuine from what i can see.

That "spigot" must be the black rubber piece coming out of the tank ? And yeah, its a 1098 tank.

I will have a look at the breathers too, make sure they are not blocked etc.

thanks for warning re paintwork, id of thought that was the norm. Shows you what i know.

    :upyeah:

  9. The 'spigot' on the RS tanks I referred to is a separate pipe outlet for a pipe to run from with a non return valve in line. It's completey separate from the filler cap.
The rubber piece in your picture seals the cap base to the tank. That's the overflow route. In theory, the tank could breathe thru that, providing it's not pinched up by the cap etc.

  10. Anyone any idea what the part number is for the petrol cap O-RING or what size it is, Id like to get one locally.

Im sick of half filling the tank, its doing my nut!

    tks

    :upyeah:

  11. i would think you can pick up an o ring , many places sell them, in packs or single ones. you may have to take the tank with you or use trial and error,, they are not expensive

  12. you're right, just take the tank cap off, that would be thinking wouldnt it....I guess Im just being lazy :)

    cheers.

  13. I used an old fuel pump unit o ring cut to size and super glued together. Needs to be a Viton seal otherwise the petrol will melt it. Andy

Corrected now, should be viton not vito, I think that is a small van
