ive fitted some bar risers and now when i pull the clutch in it activates the high beam as it catches it, so in my heavy handed wisdom i decided to twist the left hadn switch gear a little so the lever didnt foul the high beam switch, i heard a crack sound and now the switch gear is slightly loose, not wobbly but not tight.\ does anyone know if ive broken something bad or not? the bike is in for running in service next week so ive asked them to have a look, just hoping its not a big bill
Yes, you have. There is or was now, a spigot that is part of the switch gear moulding that locates the switch gear in the correct position in a hole in the handlebar and stops it rotating. I’ve seen plenty of bodges but an interference roll pin in the hole in the handle bar and drill a corresponding hole in the plastic moulding where the spigot was would return it to original. However, as you need the switch gear rotated a bit, you'll need to rely on some self amalgam tape around the handle bar for the switch gear to clamp onto with just the two securing bolts. Andy
i’m not comfortable with making this good myself, looking at it i could have rotated the clamp with the levers/ fluid reservoir on instead. i suppose ducati will want to replace the whole thing ?
You are not the first person to make that mistake and you won’t be the last. The self amalgam tape solution is simple, you might even find you can loosen the two screws sufficiently to slide the switch gear out of the way and slide it back over. You only need put enough tape on the handle bar to cover the circumference once. Andy
There's no screws on the switch gear as such. It slides on the bar and is held in place by a small plastic clip that it locates on to. You may be lucky and have just broke that clip? You need a tool to get the switch gear off though and the grip will need removing.
How can the clutch hit the high beam switch ? I have fitted risers but not touched anything on the actual bars. Just lifted them to get to the mounting bolts. The high beam is on the switch gear and the clutch is on a separate mount. Might just be me not seeing how it can hit.
when i pull the clutch in the lever hits the high beam switch, it may be as the levers etc need tilting down or up
