Well, after the chore of cutting out the rear shock bolt out, changing all the fluids, refitting the forks after spring change & service, I started the bike up only to find the weld around the small silencer on the Leo Vince decat pipe has a cracked weld. Anyone else had this happen?
7 yrs on isn’t bad going - plus it’s an easy repair Do you have the LV end can that’s mounted to the frame or stock /termi slip on that just clamps on?
this is a manufacturing fault in my eyes, it clearly is a stress crack not fatigue. 7 years or not but he does not say that it is that old and I think he is entitled to a new one
The bike is a 2012 & the decat was fitted just after I bought the bike. I have the standard slip on end can. It is an easy fix (for a welder) I just wondered if anyone else had this happen and if there was any suggestions to modify it so that it doesn’t happen again. My mate makes exhausts so I am going to get him to make me something a little quieter as it gets a bit much when you’ve been riding all day. Decat & standard can is way louder than any other end can I’ve heard.
wow that exhaust is really cracked...……………………..all over!!! it must be very thin, shall have to keep an eye on mine now. Good pictures and hope you sort out your studs ok.
Potentially the stock end can whilst not that heavy , will put more pressure on the joints than the LV can that also mounts to the frame Had the same issue with studs - mig welded a nut on (disco the battery!) and the heat from welding helped to get it out easy peasy - good luck
Mate sorted it right out. The S.S is pretty thin. I am off to Brittany beginning of next month, he is making me a new decat and and can out of something a little thicker......just need to get the studs out!
Got both the studs out today, drilled them and tapped a torx bit into them. Put a nut on the studs so that the torx wouldn’t break out the stud. Reassembly next!
Don’t suppose anyone knows what the torque is for the studs themselves? I can only find the nut torque! @Derek
I am taking my bike up to my mates shop tonight, he is building me a new decat link pipe & end can. His instruction is 1. To make it quieter than it currently is. (Not hard if you've ever heard a standard can with no cat) 2. Make it look in the same style as original (double barrel) I shall add pics when I return from holiday.
Exhaust has been done, Al went with making a new decat but keeping the standard end can. When I dropped the bike off, it was 102dB on idle (with my phone at approx. position of track day noise test) With Al's phone in same place - 97dB on idle, that is quite some drop. He has said if I want it quieter, I will have to have a can change. He's now buggered off on holiday so will post pics when I visit to pick the bike up.....or have a new can made!!
