Spent this last weekend fitting a full Leo Vince system to my Mutley Touring. I must admit I was not looking forward to it imagining all sorts of horrors to come (rounded off nuts , seized parts etc) and I almost buckled to the pressure and had the shop fit it. However, I decided to give it a go and in the end found it quite easy. The key ingredients were a good dose of patience, a good quality tool kit (just Allen keys, sockets and a torque wrench) and reference to the excellent 'how to' guide on Andy W's motorcycle info web site (see Gem aka Turkishexpress) The only issues I had were: - The 'How to" guide didn't mention the fact that you have to remove the centre stand to get the belly pan off. - Andy's otherwise excellent front cylinder head guard frustratingly doesn't (just) allow you to get a socket on one of the manifold nuts. A slight redesign possibly required. Why didn't I just take it off? Well one of the retaining bolts was the only casualty of the entire project so I couldn't. I took a frustrating half an hour with a ring spanner in the end. - The LV exhaust springs were so strong I couldn't get them on. I used the stock items instead. The most daunting part was removal of the exhaust valve motor to fit the LV cam provided. I almost considered not touching it and doing the spring and washer trick instead. However, accessing the motor was almost the easiest part of the whole project. It really was easy peasy when you loosen the sub frame and tilt it up to allow access. The 'how to' guide was spot on. So the moral of the story is this. Don't spend a fortune at your dealers - fit it yourself. It really is that easy.
Just come back from my first decent ride out since fitting the Leo Vince. Initial impressions were - Now that is how a Ducati should sound! A deep rumbling bark - The bike (in Touring mode) seemed a little flightier (if there is such a word) over the bumpy B roads. I wonder if the weight loss after losing the cat means the suspension needs softening up slightly to compensate. Or it could be the cooler weather affecting the oil. Don't know. Whadya think? - Is it my imagination or have I now gained a much stronger mid range?? The bike was always an animal but now it's f*****g outrageous! Next step is to book an appointment at CJS in the Spring.
Must have spent about 6 hours on and off spread over the weekend. I deliberately didn't rush, spending time checking each step on the website. Now I've done it once it would probably only take half that time to do it again. Hope this helps.
Majvs, can't comment for the Leo vince, but I fitted the quat d system last week and also think my bike is now noticeably crisper in mid range. Went for a short ride first thing this morning and had the front wheel in the air when I'm sure it wouldn't have done so when the cat was on it.
Yep, same here. Front was definitely lighter than it seemed before. Reckon it's a combination of the weight loss and increased mid range.
Took me 4 hrs to complete, could not get the manifold nuts off, it can be done without removing them just a bit of a faff ! Spring and cable clamp used to fool exhaust valve. Sounds a lot better more bark, just like a ducati should sound !already got fatducs fitted, fueling seems ok so far.
Is it a complete system or just a decat and tail pipe? I think the leovince retains the original headers?
My Leo Vince retained the original headers but you had to remove the front header to fit the decat. I'm surprised that the system didn't come with the little cam that's fitted to the exhaust valve motor. That does away with the need for the spring and washer arrangement. I'd be inclined to take off the Fat Ducs and try it without. Mine ran a lot better with just the decat and pipe fitted without any change to the fuelling. Then you can sell those and put the cash towards a proper remap at CJS. That sorts out any low speed running issues there might still be. Worth every penny.
It should of, mine did for the mid section. It should be displayed in the received documentation and part listing also.
I agree; you need to remove the front header to get the decat on. Mine came with the cam thingy, but not the supporting bracket for the exhaust can. I didn't even notice it was missing until I saw another system fitted. On my 2010 model the Fatducs worked really well with the new exhaust and air filter, however I know these don't work with the twin spark engine.
It can be fitted without taking header off, I have just fitted decat pipe, using std tail for moment, did 200 miles yesterday with it, can't decide if it needs a baffle or not. Pipe was not new hence cam was prob still on bike
