Let's get Ohlins going on spring upgrade alternatives!

  1. just to lobby ohlins into developping an upgrade possibility on the front and rear springs :

how many of you would consider having them installed:

    please indicate:

your weight ( fully geared up) + usual luggage
% of riding 2 up and total weight geared up and luggage you pack!

  2. Hi Koen,

Öhlins already do stiffer springs for the front and rear for the Multistrada 1200....I've already upgrade mine and they make a huge difference. They don't stop the dive when you brake sharply (or even gently), but you can dial some of it out. It will never be a sports bike, like the 999R, because the forks are long travel. You'll just have to live with some fork dive on the brakes.

For the record, I also dropped the yokes 8mm, and this speeds up the steering. Also, when 2 up, and fully loaded (large pannier lids to accommodate all the good lady's paraphernalia, and all my rubbish) we are still on Rear Preload setting #16 (max), but now the bike actually steers properly...we are about 90kg and 55kg all kitted up, but we're both quite tall too...

So, to summarise, find an Öhlins dealer near you, a Ducati/Öhlins dealer if you can, and get them to order the parts you need. They'll certainly be able to fit it too....I understand that the rear spring has it's own "challenges" if you decide to do it yourself. Mine was done by P&H in Crawley.

  3. Ok , Tx Dave. I talked to the mocal Ohlins guy and he told me that the front springs require some special shape to fit the electric pumps of the DES. just to make sure: is yours a DES equipped MTS?

would you, by any chance have the part nrs for the springs? tx a lot!

from the response, i don't see many sturdier riders :)

  4. I'm tall... ;-) 184 cm.... and the kit is heavy... ;-) No, seriously, I'm quite slim actually....

Anyway, yes, I have a 1200S Touring...so yes, I have DES. No problems with the front springs as far as I know. P&H in Crawley fitted them, and they are genuine Ohlins parts for a Multistrada....
