How do you go about removing the collet with the actuating pin for the brake lever change? It doesnt pivot far enough to get the old one out, i am changing it over to a short set of levers and cant see anyway of removing the existing pin to put into the new lever? I dont really want to destroy the existing lever to get it out as i might want to go back to the full length levers if i dont like the short ones!
Hi, Are you on about removing the whole lever and replacing it or removing the lever and replacing parts of the lever? You can break down the lever parts if need be.
On the bottom image its the pin that actuates the brake master cylinder i need to remove, the short levers i bought have a cut out to accept the pin but cant see how to remove it from the original lever , does the original lever come apart and i can remove it then?
Yeah the original lever will come apart. The parts are tight to get out but they do come out. I did my mates and re-used the plunger you are wanting to take out on a set of chinese levers he bought. When you tap the bush out, be careful as the spring does what it says and springs out into the crap in front of the garage and its hard to find lol
When you tap the bush out the whole of the right hand side of the lever comes away and you then slide out the barrel that the plunger sits in. I took the adjuster off but looking at this pic you dont have to.
The part you want to remove has a tiny allen key grub screw which secures it in place. I took my lever apart recently to adjust the in-out depth of the actuator pin. It has the aforementioned grub screw, which you undo, to then enable the actuator pin to be screwed in or out.
