Hi Folks - New to this forum but far from new to Ducati. Been riding superbikes since 1990 RD500, a few gixxers, RGV's etc then popped my Duc cherry in 1996 on a 916 Bip. Had only Ducs since then Current fleet is four in various states of tune and purpose: 1997 900SS in a project restomod state (more in another thread perhaps) 1997 ST-2 My daily beater (well in summer) & do around 10k km / year 1997 916 SPS just under 8000km on the clock and not gaining much 2001 996R just over 40k km on the clock and not gaining much either Originally from the UK I moved to Norway 27 years ago; the roads are sublime, the weather unpredictable, the speeding fines & penalties are draconian, and the summers are too short. The garage always slightly too small and my wife says I have too many "red" bikes already Been active on MS for years, as I'm sure a few others here are too. Same handle & I was a wee bit on Speedzilla before that so decided it was time to join the home crowd as well. Looking forward to getting stuck in! Few pics as an intro: Daily beater on a trip over the mountins late last spring: Another trip over the mountains, in summer, just after buying the ST 5 years ago: 900SS Restomod: 1997 gonna look a bit like a 1993 with white frame, black UP7X, Swedish gold both ends and a 1000 DS motor. The 996R I don't seem to have a decent digital image of the SPS as it hardly moves but here's one of the three sans ST2 from a few years ago before a tore apart the SS More pics to follow as I join the throng
Thanks, it's been a slow grind due to project creep so I think I need to change my "it's gotta be right" ocd to more like a Superfastmatt "good enough" if I ever wanna get it done!
Welcome. Love it up there. Spent 3 months in Langsten shipyard near Vestnes building a boat and did a lot of exploring up that way. Raced in Rudskogen a few times while I was living in Sweden. Probs my most fave track I've ridden.
Nice! It's a great country to live in, only complaint is the summers are too short & the winters too long. Spent 14 years on the west coast and, whilst geographically sublime, the weather was absolutely atrocious, relentless wind & rain, like the west coast of the UK... Moved east near Oslo a little more than 12 years ago and it's a totally different climate: Much less precipitation, cold snowy winters & warm sunny summers. Did I say the summers are short here? Well, at least I can ski in wintertime when the bikes are laid up. Must fess I've never done Rudskogen, in fact I've never done a track day on a bike - keep meaning to, but keep avoiding it as I don't trust myself... Done plenty in cars though, the wuss that I am
Haha, hey Alex, how's it going? Knew there would be a few double dippers here too How's your registry coming along?
I remember fondly, gawping through the windows of the then hallowed ground that was "Chris Clarke Motorcycles" in Wymondham, Norfolk and hankering after a 916SPS. Little did I know how sought after they would ultimately become, and the prices they went on to command. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
To be honest, I much prefer this forum over the other Registry is still slowly growing, up to 184 996Rs in it now.
Indeed, I've had this since 1998, second owner. The first owner wasnt' a "proper" biker, so to speak, but wealthy. Bought it new, threw a grand's worth of additional carbon on her, and scared himself shitless, so returned it to the shop to be sold on. When I test rode it, it only had just over 1000 km on it and mahoosive chicken stripes. I took it along my favourite stretch of road, rode it like my ´95 916 and in one tight corner nailed it like I usually do, the front end lifted into a crossed up wheelie, landed with nary a wobble - the bike just laughed at me and said is that all you can do?? I thought fark me, this is mine, rode straight back to the shop and immeditely bought it. Still love the DQ engine over the Testa.
I’ll bet you scared those mahoosive chicken strips right off! We’re all into popping wheelies, being proper bikers and living the dream here. Welcome to the forum.
Thanks! Haha, yep, the sales dude, whom I knew very well, commented at that and said "well at least it's been ridden properly now"
