Location Display On Avatar Wrong?

  1. I think I’m in Norway, whatsmyip tells me my suspicions are right:

but the forum thinks I’m in the US…:

do they know something I don’t??

ETA: okay I give up with trying to post images in this forum.. where are the hoops of fire I need to jump through??

you’ll just have to imagine the whatsmyip map pinpointing my location very accurately and you see my avatar above with the good ol boys flag…

  2. The national flag relates to the server location, not your physical location. Posting images is a minefield, either too large or wrong format. My advice is keep it simple :D Andy

  3. This ^^^^

  4. Try iplocation.com, that should give an indication of your point of presence (where your provider connects to the wider Internet).

Or you're connecting via a VPN?

  5. My sever location is not far from my physical location - my post was a bit tongue in cheek - whatsmyip iplocation etc all give the same place Oslo in Norway where I’m not too far from, so still doesn’t answer how the forum thinks I’m in the US of A…

ETA ms gets my location just fine: trying a paste image:

    My god it worked

And yeah, images they were simple Dropbox links but I just don’t think I’ll bother even trying anymore, what a royal PITA…

  6. Posting pics is easy.

Write whatever you want. Then look at the post reply button.

To the right of it is an "Upload a File" button. Click this and you then select the pic.

Next you will see another button (above the pic listing) which says post full image -click this.

    Click post reply

  8. Just make sure the file size isn’t too big, I think it’s 4mb these days

  9. Y'know i've never had an issue with file size, and I've posted a lot of pics, from all kinds of sources mainly using a Chromebook, so perhaps that has a gizmo which interacts with the forum?

  10. I find the uploading photos on this forum, is to put it mildly, not user friendly. It’s only this forum I have a problem with, I’m a regular user of four.

I take my photos almost exclusively with an iPhone and 90% need resizing before attaching to a post on this site.

The other sites use Xenforo, as does this & phpBB, maybe it’s a software version or site owners preferences I know not why.

  11. Never even crossed my mind to use that button tbh - in line with other forums, where it works without problem, I mostly normally try to drag & drop or cut & paste but often that does not work here apart from tiny snippets.

Otherwise I've been using the button in the formatting bar but that only gives me the option to post a link to a photo and that doesn't work a LOT of the time, hence the frustration....

Whodathunk "upload a file" means post a photo... I'll give it a try:

    Quel surpris....
As I said, I'll give up

  12. Yes, exactly.

  13. I use my iPhone to post pics for simple me :D
If the file is too big I just crop the edges and then it should be ok
This one I didn't need too

  17. Thats so messed up! All my trip photos in my Moveable Metal Box thread were taken on my iphone, and they loaded instantly without any resizing or adjustments. Are you sure your camera isn't set on super large pics?

  18. In the settings
    3MB at 12 MP
    4.8MB at 24 MP
    Photographic styles Standard

  19. OK so how do I find my settings so that we can compare? IMG_2371.png
