1200 Long Term Multistrada Running Costs

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Mamamali, May 23, 2018.

  1. Guys, already posted this on the most unreliable thread but thought It was worth one on it's own, largely cos it took me ages to do ha ha

As my multi gets to nearly 5 years old and is about to click past 30,000 miles I thought I'd add my 2 pence worth. It's by far the best bike I've ever owned after a lifetime of reliable Hondas and some Aprilias. In the first three year I had a fuel sender go along with the heated grips and a throttle cable recall all at 15,000 and all done under warranty, on the extended ever red warranty the following year I had front brake reservoir and starter solenoid go and that was pretty much it apart from a few cosmetic bits and bobs once again changed under warranty. The 30,000 service price from the dealer was over £1,000 so decided to go independent. It was during that service that unusual wear on the vertical inlet cam was noticed, looks to be a problem with the case hardening going, no chance of goodwill with it being at an independent and with the cam, follower and rockers costing over £900 new I found some second hand bits for £200 and got them fitted. I did the oil, oil filter and air filter myself and the rest was done by the indie for less than £400. Since new it has not needed a valve adjusting and after nearly 30,000 mile I've finally had to replace the rear sprocket and front brake pads. Finally the mud guard had worn through the braiding on the brake hose that links the two front calipers together so got one made up locally. Numerous trips to Scotland and Europe, thrashed down back roads and the A roads of north Yorkshire and I am over the moon. Here is to another 30,000 mile !
