In the pallet of spares I recently bought for my RS, there is a brand new 748 crankshaft. Sadly the pallet didn't provide the best of weather protection so the big end journal suffered with a very small amount of corrosion. I have had the journal professional polished but was advised that the crank would not suit a track bike as the handful of very small pits remaining could cause cavitation in the oil (air bubbles) at constant high engine speeds. It would however be fine if only used on the road. Oversized shells are still available for the standard rods at +0.25 (£40 each) and +0.5 (£50 each). The question is, does anyone with a project want to take on the crank (at a price) as is or have it reground ? With a new crank costing over a £1000, it seems such a waste just sitting in my front bedroom. I have tried to show what the journal looks like but as you cannot feel the pits with your finger nail, it is very challenging without a photo studio and a decent camera. PM me if interested. Andy
