Have spent almost two hours on the phone over the last couple of days if you have insured your 1199 with them they will only cover bikes up yo the value of £19k so if you are riding a 1199s or even worse a tricolore there will be a large short fall in the event of a claim
I am waiting for a call back from their under writers to clarify their position on the issue of agreed value and how it would be calculated in the event of a claim
Im still waiting for a call back from about october last year. they never call back unless its to sell you a new policy.
Im still insured with them. Have been for last 2 years. They never call back , and when you call them you never speak to same person twice. Once managed to spend nearly 2 hours on hold to them before someone came to deal with my call. Only reason i held on that long was because i was at work, and simply left phone on desk whilst waiting until someone spoke. buy cheap, buy twice.
I couldn't get a quote out of them for my Tricolore 1199. Ended up using Ducati insurance who were excellent.
Sadly I think it is a shape of what is to come. There is more and more bike theft, bikes are more and more expensive to replace or repair. Repair as they are more complicated, labour is stupidly priced so it is not worth repairing and insurance companies are forced to quote on repairs only using replacement parts where a paintjob could be cheaper. All that raises the insurance cost for everybody but a minority that gets the expensive bikes will suffer as it is not a sustainable business. Look at people who buy expensive sport cars, most of them are not insured by general insurance companies. Same will happen to bikes a average bike will be ok to insure but those rear expensive one's will end up with specialist insurance that will charge fortune. Finally there is more and more better customers then us bike enthusiasts and they are the commuting bunch. They will buy cheapest bike that is cheap to run and repair. Then will only commute and not go doing crazy stuff . Their bikes second-hand are 5k or below but even new are about 10k mark. They will not spend money on upgrading suspension and then expect it to be covered. The 5k bike will probably be insured for about 500 quid on average and if incident happens parts are cheaper due to mass production. Now your bike at 24k should then cost 5x as much to insure but it is only 1k. You must see their point.
MCE cold-called me this week to offer me insurance. I said, "No, I won't be insuring with MCE." He just hung up, before I was able to do the same. I was gob-smacked ... and very pleased.
I was with MCE and they were pretty good when I wrote my ninja off and I got back NEARLY what I paid in the end, personally I would recommend them. (I'm not currently purely because of price).
Bonus is mce club at Bsb meetings hoping for a lap pillion or a ride around track at Snetterton end of the month. It's free when you insure with them. Plenty of other bonuses too
Good news M C E called back this morning £875 protected for the tricolore but each case has to be refered to their under writers
Jesus, your the same age as me, similar history, clean licence etc. Even if I could get around to affording an 1199 I could not justify or afford the insurance. Here is me scouring the earth for quotes cheaper than £160 for my 848 !!!!!!
Just come and stay for a year in London. I have 1y NCB and clean licence. 1 bike garage and one fenced 550 fully comp.
£480 for me from mce!!! 37 years young 9 years ncb but i do live in the sticks!! I placed my order before getting quotes but Ducati were pants at sorting this out. When I brought my first r1 Yamaha sorted insurance out as part of the deal. I was 21 then and it was my first bike after passing my direct access. How times have changed
