M1100s - Removing Fork Lowers?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by mickb, Dec 1, 2014.

  1. Hi,
I'd love to take these off & get them p/coated, as well as the brembo's, is this possible, or a tricky job?

  2. Do you mean what the brake caliper bolts on to

  3. Its possible but it isnt easy and it can end badly . I know that they are threaded on with a very fine thread and usually need heat to remove them . I would get them painted in situ if I were you . I would only remove them if there was a problem with them .

I am talking about the Ohlins fork bottoms which is what I believe you have .

  4. thanks guys, yes, its the ohlins fork bottoms, which the calipers attach to. sounds like its more hassle than its worth :(

  5. I have done a pair of RGV usd forks for another lc i had, there was a little grub screw to undo but they all round off so drilled out and used a heat gun to warm the caliper mounts up ( think they loctite them in) put in a vice and unscrew as mentioned they have a fine thread,

To be honest its a pain and can wrong very quickly.
The pair i have on my Lc/hybrid i had them done in an Ohlins finish with powder coated mounts which were done by Firefox Racing in Yorkshire about 2 years ago, they did a good job, not cheap but they do look smart :Cigar:
