M620ie Indicator Issue

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Gordon Wilkinson, Jun 4, 2025.

  1. Hi all, my 620 monster has succumbed to the dreaded indicator malaise! The left set work fine, but the right set have stopped altogether.
I remember there was a thread, a few years ago, where a member said it was possible to wire in a conventional indicator circuit, ie, running through a relay, rather than being controlled through the instruments.
If anyone has any advice, or better still, a guide to doing this, I'd be really grateful. I'd rather be riding my bike than looking at it in the garage!
    Thanks all, in anticipation.
    Gordon.

  2. I think that was me. I can't remember what I suggested but I'll check it out.

  3. That would be great, thanks very much!

  4. Hi Gordon, as you may know the indicators on your bike are driven directly from the dash. The handle bar switch provides an earth signal to the appropriate pins in the dash to turn on the left or right indicators. So the problem generally lies with the dash.

In this thread the owner ended up getting the dash repaired. Monster 620ie Led Indicator Problem

This thread involves indicator failure on am M695 but the operation is similar. The owner managed to fit a conventional relay with my help. It involves cutting into the wiring loom though, so think carefully about what you want to do.

  5. Hi Derek, thank you for the fast reply.
Yes, you're right about the dash controlling the indicator function. I dismantled the dash, but couldn't see anything obviously wrong. I'm inclined to favour wiring in a relay as a more permanent fix. I understand the dash repair job can be quite expensive.
I don't really mind cutting into the loom to fit a relay, but the various connexions would have be explained as in to a six year old!

  6. I've had a look at the wiring diagram for the 620 drawn up this diagram. I hope it helps. Don't hesitate to ask if you have a problem with it.

  7. That's a great help Derek, thanks very much. Does this setup allow the indicator repeater light in the dash to do its thing?

  8. No. I forgot about that. :(
You'll have to rig up a separate warning light to make it legal. I'll do diagram tomorrow.

  9. Thanks Derek, really appreciate the advice.

  10. This a basic diagram of the indicator circuit. The diagram has a 3 wire flasher relay but you can ignore that, the 2 wire one doesn't use an earth connection. As you will see the warning light is simply wired across the RH and LH circuits. This works well with conventional bulbs but is more complicated if the LEDs are used. You will need 2 diodes as in the other diagram. Indicator wiring_Std.jpg Indicator wiring with LED Warning Light.jpg

  11. Morning Derek, that's great, thanks very much!
With all that info, I should be able to get a workable circuit.
I'll let you know how I get on. Really appreciate the help.
