Crash Death Sparks Police Call Handling Probe - Yahoo News UK Is it just me that thinks that this is absolutely outrageous ? Utter incompetence on so many levels. Someone - and probably several people - should be sacked... and sued !
Think there should be an inquiry and the results made public for sure. Before calling for heads I think I'd like to know exactly what happened, including circumstantial pressures that the people responsible were under at the time. I'd just rather see any weakness in the system righted, so it cannot happen again. Very tragic and although uncommon here, I think this sort of thing happens in the US regularly where person goes off the road and dies. Remember these mobile phones people, its the only time I carry one
Not really for me to say, as I live in England, but some of what I read here suggests that in Scotland the police force are highly efficient at dishing out speeding penalties, even in remote areas. Perhaps a review of priorities might be in order.
The difference here would appear to be that at least the Scottish police haven't done what the English police always seem to do, which is to go to the default setting of just lying about it... (yet)...
Yep, outrageous. An enquiry is required to find out the circumstances and ensure it doesn't happen again. The findings may make interesting reading though.
big reform in the force up here instead of several forces they where all put in the one force in an attempt to save money call centers amalgamated. chatting to my copper mate about it now, many possibilities maybe best not to speculate.
Seems even odder that you wouldn't stop having seen a car disappear into the scenery. From personal experience, a response to a 101 call in Hampshire isn't mandatory. Andy
funny you should say that as it was at exactly the same spot that i got done for speeding one year ago ( on way home from Goodwood ! ) police priorities i guess.
I understand the reluctance on the part of witnesses, you never know what you are going to find. I have stopped at 2 accidents in the past, one motorcyclist ended up wrapped in barbed wire which I was able to cut away by the time the ambulance arrived, the second sadly I could do nothing for the sidecar passenger who was too severely injured to survive. I will still stop for an accident regardless of the potential injuries in the hope I can make a difference. Doesn't make me a hero or special, just raised to accept civic responsibilty. Andy
I should imagine for the injured having somebody there with them can be reassuring even if you can't do anything else
I found it reassuring having people around me after my accident Never been in the other position but I like to think I could help
it should be criminal not to stop and render humanitarian aid , even if only to stand and direct the emergency services to the accident. I can understand how the police call centre vets calls and if they seem hoax ...well you get my drift.....I remember being sent to fire call, controls told us on the way the call was made from a phone about thirty miles away....bloody hoax........we drove to the address given and turned the corner to be confronted with a house well alight, flames out the windows people outside etc......turns out the homeowners couldn't speak English and had rung their relatives in another town asking them to ring the fire service.....so never take anything on face value.
When returning from Skiing this year we witnessed an accident in front of us. I sat in the car for over an hour talking to the trapped driver, chatted about anything and everything to stop him going to sleep. Fortunately it transpired he was not seriously injured but they still cut the roof off and doors to get him out on a back board. I'd like to think he was comforted by my presence.
