Hi, ok, so getting used to the M900 a bit more now and its rather clunky delivery compared with the 998s, and enjoying the more comfy riding position (as is my pillion). the weird thing is, the bike has no rev counter, and I was wondering if anybody had put either an alternate dash in, maybe electronic or from another model that would give both speed and revs (and maybe other luxuries such as time, etc). anybody done this, and if so, any pointers? thanks, Pete
I've got a Translogic dash on mine. As mine was a build/project I never had all the original parts including the instruments and already had a Translogic on the 916 so went with the familiar. It gives speed, odometer, trip counter, RPM, gear position, temperature, miles to 'empty', shiftlights, lap timer & charging voltage and has warnings/lights for oil pressure, high beam, indicators & low fuel and can illuminate in red or blue. I like digital speedos as they are easy to read quickly but actually prefer an analogue 'dial' rev counter but I find the Monster doesn't really need a rev counter (probably why Ducati never fitted one?) as you can feel the revs and never really need to take it to the limit. Here's a pic although they have now updated the design, the new ones are very similar;
thanks DD. that does look very nice. My limited research shows not many options. The translogic isn't showing on their website, but a search on ebay shows one recently sold 2nd hand for well over £300! Some alternative clock sets out there, so I guess I need to look at what outputs come from where, and what sort of analogue/mechanical drives are there (e.g. rev counter drive). Pete
SSs came with rev counters and it's pretty much the same bike underneath, so a dash from an SS might work.
Yeah, been looking at a few of them on ebay. just need to figure where the various wires and rev cable would all go (assuming it is a cable rev counter). Pete
Older models used a cable rev counter but I'm not sure if any Monsters ever did, although mine has a blanking plate that covers the fitting for the cable to screw into at the RH end of the camshaft on the front cylinder (Don't think the gearing is on the shaft though?). I would think they will all be electronic, picking up from ignition module/coil (Translogic and other aftermarket use the feed from ignition to coil). Ducati did make an aftermarket rev counter that fits to the existing dash; Can't imagine they're still available new but they pop up on ebay etc. occasionally.
