This is not particularly Ducati related but I wonder how many of you have ever marked your bike's oil filter before a service. Has anybody ever done this and been charged for oil and filter and then found the same old filter in place.This has been done to me recently but not by a Ducati related dealer. I suggest you take this precaution and you may be surprised how often garages are guilty of this scam.
had a similar thing with a car service a few years ago where they 'forgot' to change the spark plugs and air filter... They had no more of my business after that...
Not at all road vehicle related - but I once got a boat back from a service yard that had (allegedly) had an overhauled engine fitted and had been sea-tested. Strange, because the same rusted solid engine mounts were there from when we sent it away and when we put it in the water it started sinking because the stern-drive wasn't bolted up tight on the transom. Needless to say that boat yard doesn't get any business any more... I agree though that some garages will try to rip you off be charging for things that they have not done. Our local garage will give you all the old filters, plugs etc back in a plastic bag if you want them - so at least you know they have been changed. If you have any doubts a little dot of tipex on the filters before the service makes it easy to see if they have been changed or not...
many, many years ago i worked in a main dealers, and we would occasionally get cars in for service where the owner had marked all the consumables with paint, so we would just replicate every mark on the new parts after they had been fitted, we had at our disposal touch-up paint of every colour in the range so matching-up was easy. it used to piss us off that the customer would'nt trust us to do the job properly in the first place.
