Just got back from browsing used cars at the Huddersfield Mercedes main dealer. I was looking at an E220 when I noticed a card on the windscreen saying that "this vehicle can be checked to ensure that it has not been stolen , written off, or subject to outstanding credit. This service is chargable at £75". If the greedy feckers can't be bothered to check their own stock, I'll go elswhere. :grimacing:
As a registered motor trader are they not responsible for ensuring that is the case, and particularly if you ask the specific question ?
I think the motor trader has the buck stop with them if not hpi clear, used to be for 7 years if later found to be a write off etc.
If its approved used the dealer would have already HPI'd it anyway. I'm a trader and buy HPI checks in a block. I check every car I buy even if its comes from a reliable source. Why would you charge a potential buyer.
Greed. The same reason manufacturers charge £500 for metallic paint and you'll find all but one colour is metallic. They'll usually have one no cost option colour to comply with the law.
