Just wondering if any of you guys have tried these tyres and how they compare to what else you've tried? Considering trying some for track day use only. TIA!
I have them on my track 748R, I was quite impressed by them and they were better than the Michelins that I was using at the time. I use K2 front and K3 rear but not the RR version. Mine are coming up for a couple of years old now and i think they have changed a bit, although whether it's just in description or compound (or both) I haven't checked that out yet.
Been using the previous generation Racetech Interacts on my 853 and now have a pair of the RRs on my 1098R ready for Almeria in 3 weeks. I'm a huge fan of the Metzeler having previously used Pirelli and Bridgestone. I started using them when they were the 1000cc Superstock control tyre and had no reason to change since. Andy
The Interact K3 was always referred to as the "endurance" compound and they certainly wore well whilst retaining good grip. I've no reason to assume anything other for the RR but time will tell ...... in about 2 weeks and 5 days time . Andy
I'd always assumed that too but apparently not, the RRs are supposed to maintain their grip levels much longer than SCs and last longer too.
Be interested to hear what you think, oh and do have a great time! AFAICT the RR K3 is more of a road compound tyre whereas the K2 and softer K1 are DOT race tyres. I've ordered a set of K2s and will try em out next month, have used Pirelli tyres since the early 1990s so it will be interesting to feel if the profiles are basically the same as the same company makes both brands!
Had a great time thanks and the performance of the K3s was outstanding. Morning temperatures on all 3 days started in the low 20s and got to 29/30 by the late afternoon. Started out a little too high with 34R/36F hot on the first day but settled for 32R/34F in the morning and dropped 2 psi for the hottest part of the day. I use basic Capit tyre warmers. The tyres were absolutely consistently predictable, wear was consistent and even and I felt no degredation in grip over the 3 days. An ex professional racer took my bike out for a few laps on the Thursday and got straight into the 1:40s with a huge grin on his face and I got most of my improvement in the last few sessions on the Friday. More than happy that there is plenty of life in them for Silverstone in June. The only issue I've come across is that Metzeler now only do a 190/55/17 in the K3 which means you've got to choose between a 180/60 or a 200/55 if you want a K1/K2 on the rear. Andy
Cheers for the write up! Impressed you guys did that with a K3 RR! FWIW 180/60 is pretty much exactly the same size as a 200/55 except the 200/55 is 5mm wider.
I guess the 180/60 will feel a little quicker on turn it but the real issue for me is rim size. My 748R has a 5.5" width rim and runs the 180 but both my 853 and the 1098R have a 6" width rim and run the 190. I'm happy that the 200 will fit the 6" rim but I'm not sure if there is room at the front of the swing arm to accomodate the wider tyre. Plus is a 6" rim too wide for the 180 ? Confuses the hell out of me and I'm so happy on the 1098R, I can see tyres becoming more important as I hopefully get bigger balls. Andy
