Mhr Engine Out Question.

  1. Anyone know what to do about disconnecting this cable and the one on the other side?

  2. I found it easier to remove the covers as they catch on the downtubes

  3. Thanks, I will do that today. Presumably beneath those covers is an electrical connector.

  4. ....or that's just a gland so the cable can slip through (perhaps completely?)
    Just a guess.

  5. Stator side? Isn't there a connector further up the loom?

  6. The RH side is for the alternator and the LH the ignition pickups. If you are removing the engine take the covers off because, as has been pointed out, they foul the front frame mounting points. The alternator cable goes back to the regulator from which the wires can be unplugged. The pickup cable plugs into the loom below the tank.
The cables go through compression glands, the black plastic things, and can be removed inwards once the gland has been separated but you will need to separate each terminal from the pickup connector to the loom. In my experience the insulation of the pickup wires becomes brittle with age and tends to fall to pieces if they get moved. So beware.

  7. Very useful thank you.

Removed casings and there was a little oil in each side.

Now setting about disconnecting the cable connectors as above.

  8. Got the rectifier disconnected, but the plugs under the tank are very tricky. I don't want to pull the wires and cannot see how the connection is made.

  9. I know i said to remove the cases, but I also fitted my own plugs to both sets of cables to make life easier

  10. Thought crossed my mind that life would be easier with some new connectors between the cases and those tricky plugs under the tank.

  11. Going for entirely new cables, ignition and coils.

  12. Maybe a new Rotor?

  13. It's actually sitting on top of the plastic oil tray......o_O

  14. Engine, carbs, exhausts and tarnished brackets gone off for cleaning.
Wheels stripped and sent for painting.
Electronic ignition ordered along with gaskets, bearings, brake lines, calliper seals and pistons, tyres, fuel taps, filters and pipes.
    Forks gone for a service.
Looks like it's gonna be a summer of bolting stuff back together.
