Hi, My 851 broke cover today and went for a decent ride. It’s now developed an inability to run well below about 3,500 rpm - it feels and sounds like it’s just running on the one cylinder. It’s also popping and banging just about constantly on the over-run. It pulls fantastically well above 4,000, it’s just about about unridable in thirty zones though. My initial thought was an air leak into an inlet (when I just had the popping) but I can’t see how this would cause a misfire / non running cylinder at low rpm? Any ideas please? Thanks, Ian. Tiny split in a tube or air gator? So too much air til it gets some vacuum then it’s shuts the hole? Heard of this on other older Ducati’s.
A couple of years ago I had the same problem with my 907ie, which uses the same injection system as the 851. It ran fine at higher revs but at around town speeds it would misfire and cough and splutter. Strangely a new pair of plugs fixed it.
Yep that’s them, so when at lows pressure air seeps in, when at higher revs and pressure it seals again. May be worth a bit of time on a search, as it has defo been discussed on here a few times
