Monster 696 Sprocket Replacement Issue.

  1. Hi all

I replaced my front and rear sprocket on the bike as they looked worn but there seems to be a clicking noise when I rotate the rear wheel and it seems to be coming from the front sprocket area and I’m wondering should I change my chain aswelll even though it looks clean and fresh?

Both front and rear sprocket have a 520 pitch which match the chain and
I have also adjusted the chain tension as per sticker on the swing arm.

  2. It’s standard practice to change chain & sprockets as a set as they wear to, and with, each other. Fitting new sprockets under an old chain will accelerate the wear of the new sprockets, and vice versa. There is a measurement tolerance for the chain, I don’t know off the top of my head what it is for a 520 chain on your bike but it will be XX mm over Y (usually 10) links. If your chain is almost at the outer limit of that D change the chain.

Thar being said if it were my bike I’d investigate the clicking sound to identify the source of it and make sure it’s nothing other than a chain whose pitch no longer correlates with the pitch of the sprocket.
