Monster Air Cooled Valve Service Info

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Nostromo, Sep 22, 2021.

  1. So dealer 1 (main dealer) belts need to come off, airbox will likely need new screws possibly a new airbox lid.....$$$$ will need shims as its at 15k.
Dealer 2(ex main dealer) yeah you can do your own belts and oil etc before or after the valve check.
you may need shims, may not.

Can anyone who has done this themselves clarify, I'm expecting dealer 1 to be spouting some bs.

    Cheers

  2. What year/model is the Monster?
Yes, the belts need to come off. It can be done with them in place but a total PIA and the job will take much longer.
Air box lid/screws? It will depend on the model but unlikely.
It may not need any shims replacing but it could need all of them although this is very unlikely. More like 3 or 4 at most.
Expect cost of shims + labour

  3. Hi Derek
    It’s a 2010 696.

I’m guessing plugs out and rotate with a crank turning tool, if done with the belts in.

    cheers
