Monster Cluster Repair

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by Geoffduk, Jan 28, 2019.

  1. Now that I’ve completed my monster build I thought I’d share some info on cluster repair. After several internet searches I struggled to find anyone providing me with sufficient information to repair my clocks. Phoned several companies but received unsatisfactory responses to some simple questions and decided to repair my own if I could source the necessary parts. I had several faults: no high beam idiot LED, rpm needle intermittent and dodgy indicator. From the pics I’ve highlighted the defective parts and the stepper motor compatible with my clocks. The motor itself was fine but after dismantling I found the final gear damaged along with motor drive gear. The complete motor cost £27 but it’s possible to buy just the final gear and plastic cover for £7 but wasn’t an option for me. Whilst removal of rpm needle I snapped the stem following the guidance given on the internet. In the end the best way to achieve this is to rotate the needle against the internal motor stop in an anti clockwise direction pulling slowly upwards as you twist. You hear all sorts of squeaking noises as the plastic turns on the metal shaft but just keep twisting. Works a treat. Using acrylic model glue I fused the broken shaft to the small broken spigot which seems to give good mechanical strength. Both jaeger and switec motors have internal stops so resetting the zero position is easy. Simply push the needles on and switch bike on and allow sweep. Estimate offset visually and switch off. Adjust needle to compensate for offset and repeat until correct. Missed out the indicator relay. It’s a VND05BSP
    Anyway here’s the pics.
