Moto R

  1. IMG_2464.JPG Just thought I'd put this on here to see what people think! I'm totally new to Ducati and now own a 998 2002 model which I must admit is a thing of beauty! It had 15k on the clock when I bought it so checked the manual and swiftly got it booked in for a major 15k service at Moto R, who came recommended. After been given a date to drop the bike off, which is an hours drive from me, I told Rich that I would pick the bike up on my way home from holiday as it would suit me better which meant he'd have it for two weeks. Rich advised that it would need belts and clearances doing which I expected so no real drama and he advised me that he'd go right through the bike.
So, the day before I'm picking the bike up I called him to make sure all was well and it turns out he had only started working on it that morning and he said he would try to have it finished in time for me to pick up on Saturday lunchtime as previously arranged, but he had mots booked in so he said he'd see how it went! I was a little cheesed off by this! So, Saturday morning I get a call to say some chrome was missing off a rocker arm so it won't be ready as he'd have to order one! So, not only is my bike not ready, I took my van as well as my Mrs driving the car on holiday so I could pick it up, so I'm at least half a tank of fuel down already!
The next week comes around and the shims and rocker arm are all done, so I called to check when to collect only to find out that it's not charging so a reg/rectifier needs ordering, so again I leave Rich to it to sort out. I call him the following week to see if it's ready and he's forgotten to order it and thought he'd finished my bike! I'm meant to be picking the bike up that night and a mad rush to get it finished it's finally done when I arrive on the Thursday night to collect.......or so I thought! Comes back from a test ride and the back brake is binding! Finally after another hour it's done! It's in the van for another hour trip home and I'm £1300 in servicing and labour.
So, all is good! Well kinda! Out riding the other night and it's cutting out when pulling up at junctions etc, so gave him a call to see if he'd calibrated the throttle bodies etc, which yes, he had done but it might just need a tweek with the air screws etc! So if I'm riding that way he said to pop in and he'll sort it. More of my fuel then!
Just in the garage last night cleaning it, as you do, I noticed the clutch reservoir was quite dirty, but on closer inspection I couldn't believe what I found! As you can see from the pic the fluid was rotten! So, bled it all through and thought I'd better check the brake fluid too which is also meant to be changed on a 15k service. Yup, not been changed! So, now it's got lovely clean fluid in brakes and clutch! I did mention this to Rich this morning and it seems he has some sort of device that lets him know if the fluid is ok even if it is black as apparently it goes black after 1000 miles anyway! He did apologise if it was an oversight.
Don't get me wrong, Rich seemed a nice enough chap, but £1300, half a tank of diesel, an hour and a half of my time to bleed brakes and clutch and he had the bike for three weeks, can you blame me for being a little cheesed off? Looks like I'll have to take it to someone to get it set up which again will cost me!
Don't think I'll be going back to Moto R!
I hate that I've had to put this up here, but for me customer satisfaction is key!
    Cheers.

  2. One man band gets a good reputation, takes on more work and gets snowed under so mistakes creep in, it happens. Brake and clutch fluid now has the water content checked and if it is in spec it's not changed. A major service starts at £600, add in a valve clearance check and rocker arm change and that'll take it over the £1000 mark easily. If your man is an independant, I am surprised he looks to be charging dealer prices but you got to make a living. Andy

  3. Yeh, I don't mind paying but I want the job doing right Andy. I was a little surprised at his labour charges, pretty similar to main dealer and if I'd have taken it to a main dealer I'd have got it back quicker and I'd hope it'd be spot on when I collected it!

  4. I'd be pretty peed off too if I'm honest. If I had agreed a certain service and then found items were not carried out as per the service I'd be peed off.

That's why we take our pride and joys to specialists who we always expect will give our bikes the love and attention that they need..
